What’s in the box?

Game Recorder HD, AC Power Supply (multi region), Break out cable (Mini 8) and user manual
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use and great quality! This is a really good piece of kit. I've used this with my Xbox 360 to capture some FIFA matches between me and some friends with our own audio commentary! You just plug a HDMI cable into the box and then another HDMI cable from the box to the TV. Press the button on the front to record and I was able to save the video straight to a USB stick. So much better than some of the others I've seen here you need to connect to a laptop. The video quality and sound is great and I was able to upload the file straight to youtube. I pretty much plan to record all of my gaming now just in case I do something cool :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Capture Everything With No Fuss! All I've wanted for years (about 25 or so) is a recorder that would without fuss allow me to copy various things digitally - without breaking the bank! I've given up on hardware that plugs into a PC and uses software. The occasional blips and breakups maybe annoying if you watch something live, but if you are going to be watching it over then it begins to get a little annoying. So I know what ever I bought it's need to record straight to media, such that I could edit it later if needed. A second killer feature for me, is that it records Composite, as well as Component and HDMI video. That's something most of the dedicated game recorders just don't do! So on to using it! First up, before messing around behind the TV I wanted to make sure it worked. So plugged it into the HDMI output on my laptop and recorded to a 32GB. The result was fantastic; okay so the compression means it's not pixel perfect but it's certainly better than DVD quality, and not far off Blu-Ray quality. Test number 2, HDMI video from a Wii U - worked like a charm! The only in-game Wii U video this clear that I've seen before has come straight from Nintendo! Test number 3, I have a large collection of VHS music videos from the 80's and 90's that I want to back-up, so this seemed an ideal time to try. My DVD/VHS combo outputs via HDMI, so I gave that a shot. NO LUCK! It seems that all the output on the HDMI from the DVD/VHS combo is encoded and so can't be recorded. The combo though does also have a composite output. Hooked up to the composite output and started to copy a tape.... Success even when the tape is "MacroVision" protected. *I'm backing up tapes of material that is no longer available, and only for personal use. This box is the answer to so many of my dreams!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont waste your time I bought the last one in stock, the box had already been opened. I should have heeded the warning of perhaps a faulty returned unit. On getting it home, I discovered it would not record from a set top box via the HDMI connector due to protection, so tried the composite video input, which was poor, so wired a scart to pick up the RGB via the red green and blue phono's, but it would not switch to RGB, there is no way of controlling this device, besides the two push buttons. I ended up smashing it to bits, and am not sorry I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Works very well, infact better than most of the BIG names out there. Would recommend and also to the comment below about the sound going from his laptop, well all you have to do is change the default in audio settings. I'm rating this 5 stars because I think, if you know what you're doing or willing to learn its an awesome product! And works for more than just gaming, you can use it to convert old videos too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not bad, but lacking a few items I bought this for my son to record his laptop gaming. One of the few recorders I could find that would allow that function (its primary function appears to be Xbox and Playstation). It will basically record anything that uses HDMI or Analogue signal. Few problems with that.. plug a HDMI lead into a laptop and it kills the audio out from the laptop and the headphone socket. Therefore your only way to monitor the sound you are recording is to add a second TV on the HDMI output and use the headphone socket on that TV. Ideally, they should have put a headphone socket on the box itself - then you don't need another TV. No HDMI lead... bit poor for the money. The link in the instructions to obtain the software to update the internal clock doesn't work. Took ages to find the download and when I did... the software doesn't work. The files save under some bizarre random date filename. All in all.... OK

Files are all saved with a random 2013 date. How do I set this?  Through the "PC Connect" socket?  But there is no information on this in the manual, and the website and facebook links in the manual do not work.
