What can I make with this kit?
With up to 1 watt output per channel and 2 channels this amplifier kit (manufactures code 2141B-JK) is a great way to listen to your MP3 player. No need to spend time soldering, everything this kit comes with is PCB pre-built. An on/off switch, power LED and volume control are built into the kit. Just plug into a 3.5mm stereo socket (a standard small headphone socket) and listen to your music. This kit requires a DC 2-15V power supply. A single 9V (PP3) battery (not included) or a DC 12V power supply (not included) are recommended.

What is included in this kit?
No need to solder most of the components, as the PCB is already pre-built. All you need to connect is the 3.5mm jack lead, speakers and power clip. The kit amplifies the voltage and current of the input signal with the amplifier integral chip (a TDA2822M chip) and the potentiometer (or variable resistor) works as a volume control. The signal is then transferred to the speakers which translate it into sound. Minimal soldering is required with this kit – you only need to solder the speakers, jack and battery clip.

How difficult is this to solder?
This is a great kit for those who are not comfortable soldering or want to demonstrate how a speaker works. The kit comes with two 8 ohm 66mm speakers and 3.5mm jack lead. You can build your own enclosure (not included) to protect the electronics and make your own audio system.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works, but poorly designed. The kit itself is very straightforward with very little additional assembly. Everything is included (except batteries!). However, the circuit board is very badly laid out and is very prone to noise and self oscillation. The ground circuit meanders around the board whereas it should be as close to a plane as possible. The amplifier chip it is based on is obsolete; it overheats at full volume and really isn't up to the job. A bit more thought by the designer would have gone a long way.

I have built the kit. Instructions say to line up the notches of the board, the ic holder and the ic. The supplied ic does not have a notch, but rather a circular indent in one corner on the top .Please advise tjay

Would the 1 watt output be sufficient to comfortably hear a series of bleeps, 2 meters from speakers. And Can both channels be used as mono operation?

Sorry the question is subjective, many other factors would affect the ability to hear the sound, including but not limited to, the volume of the beep, the ambient volume in the room, the pitch of the beep and the hearing range of the person listening. It would be impossible to give a definite answer. With regard to the second part of the question, Yes if you wired the mono input to both channels it would be output via both channels

What is input impedance looking into this device, in other words, what does the microphone see as a load? Also, what is the likely drain on the a 12v power supply in typical use?

It mentions an impedence of 8 Ohms. Does this arise from the speakers or is it the impedence of the entire circuit?
