What does this kit do?
Measure the volume where you are with this build-your-own sound meter. The kit uses a microphone to detect noise then it is displayed on the 10 LEDs. Quiet noises are displayed on the green LEDs, and the louder it gets the closer it gets to the red LEDs. You can adjust the sensitivity to your preferences using a variable resistor.

What is in this kit?
A good introduction to electronics, this kit uses resistors, capacitors, LEDs, diodes, a microchip and a microphone. Get experience soldering components and learn what they are used for in a circuit. The microphone detects the sound and sends it to a LM386 op amp which then sends the signal on to a LM3915 microchip. This kit requires soldering and may require wire cutters, a screwdriver and wire strippers (not included).

How easy is it to solder?
This kit is easy to solder – perfect for beginners. Once you’ve built the kit you may want to add an on/off switch (not included) or build an enclosure to protect it (not included), just take care not to block any LEDs or the microphone. This kit requires a single 9V (PP3) battery (not included).

Hi would I be able to modify to use a 12v supply and replace the microphone with an automotive knock sensor
