Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sound activation mode terrible I bought this for my daughters birthday. The light effects are brilliant and the leds are very bright and fill a room but as with other reviews it has a major flaw. On sound activation mode it's just doesnt work unless it's placed right next to the speaker. The adjuster screw isn't mentioned in the manual but there is one on the bottom. It makes no difference no matter how you adjust it. Weirdly it works when the screw driver is actually in the screw and you are holding it as if you are acting as an antenna. I wanted to wall mount it but I simply can't. Even if I crank the speaker up to maximum the microphone doesn't pick the sound up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great for Disco - Useless on DMX Bought 2 after a couple of uses one started to judder in it's movement, It was swapped at my local store immediately. A few more days and the other one did the same - that too was swapped. (No problem since, 5 weeks) Since then I have tried them on dmx - neither work, despite the dmx address being set correctly and a terminator fitted, they are very simple 6 channel but do all manner of strange things when on dmx, the dmx chart in the instructions is very clear but the units don't conform to it. If you wants these as part of a display/show on dmx - Don't If you want disco lights they're fine!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought one of these as part of the lighting for a party in my gazebo , the light is great but it had a major flaw, the sound mode doesn't work unless the unit is 4 inches or closer to a speaker (this style of light is best in the middle of the room), this was after adjusting the sensitivity screw on the bottom of the unit, I took it back and exchanged for another one, 2nd one was the same as the first, took that back and got my money back, If they upgraded the mic or sound activation this would be an awesome light, I was perfectly happy with the effect , just a pity it's sound activation mode is pants, there's no other light the same style that gives a better light show at this price, iv tried a good few over the last week and just can't find one that comes close, but all the ones iv tried work meters away from the speakers lol Maplin please upgrade the sound to light ...you would have the best light of this type if you did, I would buy again if I knew sound to light worked properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this today as doing my sons disco and WOW! What a fantastic light show, spins in numerous directions with the beat of the music changing colour. This looks the bees knees. Perfect lighting for a disco.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DMX Problem [SOLVED] After several fruitless days of trying to figure out the DMX control for this unit I gave up and started poking around inside with an oscilloscope. Eventually I realised the reason it wasn’t working was because the data signal had become inverted. The fix is simply to swap the Red and Blue wires around from the DMX socket to the controller board. Now it works just like it's supposed to!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap and brilliant! Bought one of these and the sound to light was found not working at a live gig for which I bought it for. Even so, the auto patterns filled the room with colour. My local store (Bedford) exchanged this with another unit and the sound to light is working fine. It really is a great device and will fill a room with rich bright colours. Two of these on stage on the floor is all you need. Really! If you have no DMX control, a small remot would be nice to change settings. Only reason it doesn't egg top marks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this for my daughters 13th birthday party. This little unit in a big church hall, stunning result. Easy to set up, packs a much big punch than its size and weight would sugguest excelent value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from brilliant effect We have three of these and they are excellent set to sound to light they work great we usually put them on the floor and let them do their one thing. However as someone else commented the dmx is weird with a controller they seem to have a mind of their own, but if you set one to the programme you want and connect a dmx lead to the other and switch them to SLAV (slave) mode they all work together. Another point I had to take the dome top off one as it got dropped and the dome split so I took it off to glue it the fuse holder dosnt do anything the mains lead goes straight to the printed circuit board. !!

Can i replace the microphone capsule with a more sensitive one so that the light does not have to be "so very close" to the speakers to operate in the sound pickup mode?

Asked by: mackieboy
I have replaced the internal microphone insert which to my surprise is not mounted behind the front panel but is situated behind the lcd display & faces towards the rear of the light! With the more sensitive mic insert i used mounted outside on the front panel & wired back to where the original insert was mounted the light now works to sound far better!

the glass fuse has blown on the back of the ball and need to get a replacement for it but cant read the writting on the fuse could you tell me what fuse i need to get please

Asked by: Splash89
The fuse used in this light is a 20mm 3A quick blow fuse at 240V. Unfortunately we do not have any fuses at exactly 3A so would be unable to recommend a spare from our stock list.
