What does the LightwaveRF radiator valve do?
The LightwaveRF radiator valve, is a self-regulating valve that allows you to control the temperature of a room by regulating the flow of hot water to the radiator. It can be used independently but greatly benefits by being used in conjunction with other products within the LightwaveRF range.

The radiator valve is thermostatic, meaning it features an internal temperature sensor, which will open and close the valve, depending on the desired set mode. The present modes included consist of running, standby and away mode. These modes change the target temperature between three default settings.

When used with the LightwaveRF Link (A23RX), you get the ability to manually adjust multiple radiator valves via the LightwaveRF app. This allows you to customise the default temperatures for the different modes and implement custom schedules. The app, available for free, allows you to access and control your system from multiple devices simultaneously. Compatible with any iOS 5.0 device or higher including iPhones, iPods and iPads, Android devices running 4.0 and higher. Control your smart heating over Wi-Fi as well as 3G/4G.

The LightwaveRF Link also allows you to link the radiator valve with other LightwaveRF products. This could include setting up with the LightwaveRF boiler switch (N79QJ), or even setting up a LightwaveRF magnetic switch (N71LL) on a window to automatically place the radiator in the room onto away mode when a window is opened.

Will the LightwaveRF radiator valve work with my existing radiator?
The LightwaveRF radiator valve TRV (thermostatic radiator valve) head fits to the majority of existing thermostatic valves, with two optional collar types that can be interchanged to suit different radiator designs.

How do I install the device?
The LightwaveRF simply requires removing the existing valve head, inserting the LightwaveRF radiator valve's batteries, and screwing it into place. Removing the existing valve head should not hold any risk of a water leak and does not require you to drain the system. Once installed the radiator valve will automatically configure itself within a few minutes. If you desire a more advanced setup with the LightwaveRF Link, each radiator valve features a 'link' button allowing quick and simple integration into your LightwaveRF home automation system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product These are great. I can control them from my iphone using the app from anywhere in the world via the wifilink. It shows the current room temperature, the target temperature that you've set and info on the weekly / daily program of each device if you've set one. There is a small short whirring noise when moving the valve but its really not bad at all. It'd only be an issue in your bedroom and even then I reckon it'd not wake me up. I have these in my kitchen, hall, living room and dining room so I can adjust the heat the spine of my house remotely. Will save loads on my oil bill. I had an issue when linking them to the wifilink but my message to the support was answered within thirty minutes and it was fixed ten minutes later. Faultless. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product These are great. I can control the room temperature from my iphone from anywhere in the world via the wifilink. You can see the current room temperature, set the target temperature and set a program for the device. There is a small whirring noise but only for seconds when the valve is moving and nothing terrible as far as I'm concerned. Had a small issue when pairing with the app but this was resolved very quickly and remotely by the manufacturers support email. Highly recommended. These will save money on your heating bill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY Noisy Real shame, great concept but keeps kicking in at odd time (even outside the set schedule!). Been waking us up for the last 2 weeks, final time today at 4:50am....doesnt just whir it does it every 30 seconds for around half an hour! Took the batteries out and will be returning today for a refund. (Whole house is lightwaverf enabled so was really looking forward to this valve being a new addition!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for living areas Good for zoning the house, you can also control it from your phone wherever you are, as well as see the temperature and the % open on the valve. I understand you can press the button in it and have it fire the boiler if not already running. However, whilst I have a boiler switch I decided not to use that option. I have fitted this to the Danfoss TRV without needing the included adapter as well as the cheaper Screwfix (British made version) own brand TRV's. We started with it in the bedroom, its not too noisy for me, but my wife couldn't get used to it so we only have these in bathrooms and living areas now. I they have made a difference to our fuel bills (lower) and has increased comfort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective little units Already added 3 of these to our heating setup. Installation is incredibly easy if you already have thermostatic valves (just unscrew the old TRV's exposing the valve pin and replace with the smart TRV). Once in place I was able to set schedules to heat different parts of the house at appropriate times of the day. Some have mentioned the noise, and yes they do whirr when changing and also occasionally for re-calibration, which isn't great in bedrooms. However as well as the ability to set a target temperature (which can trigger periodic changes), you can simply set a valve position (0-5). In this mode you lose your fine control of a target temperature but stops it waking you up at 3 in the morning! I'm using these in conjunction with the main thermostat and boiler switch which also works pretty well. There is an optional configurable mode "call for heat" with room by room temperature control, with each one able to turn on your boiler when required, though I've chosen no to use this as you then lose your main thermostat control. Much of the complexity of this system is figuring out what is the best way of using these devices in your home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Just put 12 of these throughout our house along with the thermostat and boiler switch. Absolutely great. Easy to install and then I just set up individual programmes for each room using the app on my smartphone. Great if I am running late as I can delay the boiler coming on to save money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shockingly Poor I bought two TRV’s one boiler switch and a house thermostat. I spent approximately four days, trying to get them to talk to each other. After figuring out that you must activate “Call for Heat”, which is not mentioned in any documentation, I got some semblance of serviceability. There is no consistency in communication between the components. When each of the TRV’s were above target temperature, the thermostat refused to send an “Off” signal to the boiler switch. If you decide that you want to use the Thermostat as a ‘Parent’ for the TRV’s, a warning message pops up, telling you that “To ensure Call for Heat works successfully, no manual/app control of the parent device should be done, nor any schedule changes”. So, what’s the point of having to spend £70 on the thermostat to control another thermostat???? Why not talk directly to the boiler switch? I kept on trying to convince myself that it was me, and not the equipment to blame. But it was the equipment. To be fair to LightWaveRF, I have been using their switches and relays with very good results. Very reliable and easy to setup and use, which is why I decided to expand the system to include the heating. A valuable lesson about keeping receipts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too noisy Despite other bad reviews I thought I'd give these ago as the other LightwaveRF products are really good. However all I can say is save your money, despite having the latest version of the Firmware they are still very noisy and seem to randomly fire up. I had one in the bedroom which was removed the following day as it woke us up the other two were in the lounge and again they have been removed because of the noise, very disapointing.

Can the radiator valves be setup/controlled without an internet connection (i.e. with the RF link connected to a wireless router but not the internet)?

Would these work if you had the Netatmo smart thermostat installed as well?

Asked by: Bryz1001
This device requires LightwaveRF Link (N55LL) to control it. As regards to if it would work while you also have the Netatmo thermostat, could not confirm full compatibility as they aren't intended to be used together.
