What does this kit do?
Synthesisers have been part of the music scene since the 1970s, and are still widely used today for the wide range of sounds and effects you can make with them. After using this kit to build your own synthesiser, you can let your imagination run free and create wild and wacky sound effects or even compose your own songs. This synth kit was developed by littleBits in partnership with Korg, a pioneer of electronic music. The kit is easy and fun to put together and perfect for anyone 14 years or over. It is powered by a single 9V PP3 battery.

What effects can I create with the synthesiser?
This synthesiser is made up of several parts - including signal generators to produce your base sound, controllers for your input, modulators and modifiers to alter your sound, and a speaker for your audio output. You can control a full octave with the 13 key keyboard, or use the four knobs of the micro sequencer to make a melody. You can even connect your own headphones or speakers with a 3.5mm jack output. Tune and build you songs with attack and decay timing, in addition to delay and mixing, to create a truly unique sound each time.

What can I learn from this kit?
Experiment and learn about creating circuits. The littleBits modules are colour coded to help you build your own circuits from scratch. For reference - power units are blue and always come first in a circuit. Inputs are pink and only affect the part of the circuit that comes after them. Outputs are green and are create responses, such as making something light up or make a noise. Wires or connectors are orange, and allow you to open up and expand your circuit further.

Can I create other projects?
Unleash your imagination – the magnetic modules in this kit mean it couldn’t be easier to keep creating. The modules snap together to create a circuit. As they use different poles, you can’t put them together the wrong way round. When you’ve looked at the 10 projects in the instruction booklet, try to creating your own and see what they can do. littleBits modules can combine, or use everyday items to make amazing projects.
