What features does this CCTV kit have?
This HD quality CCTV security system is ideal for the home or even small business premises. With true 1080p recordings on all the cameras, you will be able to capture crystal clear footage. This kit uses FLIR Cloud - an innovative cloud connection service through which you can easily connect to your security system using a smart device, PC or Mac. Using FLIR Cloud, you can remotely view your system within minutes. Simply download the free app and scan the QR code to get started. This security system is great for 24/7 surveillance due to its long distance night vision - which has a range of up to 130ft (40m) in regular night time lighting conditions and up to 80ft (24m) in total darkness. With an IP66-rating, these cameras are perfect to use outdoors for protection around your property.

How much storage will I have?
Your video footage is recorded on the 2TB hard drive. With this amount of storage, you can store up to 300 hours of recorded footage before the DVR starts to write over that has already been recorded. This gives you up to twelve days to retrieve any footage you would like to download off the DVR system and onto an external memory device.

Is this system easy to set up?
The HD DVR is designed for use with 1080p wired HD cameras that use standard BNC cabling to transmit HD images. Connect the HD DVR to a TV or LCD monitor with standard HDMI and VGA inputs. The interface has simple menus and icons, allowing for easy and efficient security DVR programming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent, in a way I have researched loads of systems from cable, wireless to power over Ethernet and decided on a 8 camera wired system. I looked on my favorite auction site and this set was only slightly more expensive than importing it, not including any customs I may have been charged. 2 of the cables were too short and had to buy more as i needed 2 50 m ones, image isn't as good as the systems I use at work but they costs thousands so I don't expect it to be. Setting up the basics was easy,it kind of does it itself, it is when you start using the motion detectors with push notifications it gets very complicated. There is no help at hand to explain motions regions and everything is guess work and trial and error. The mobile software crashes a lot when trying to view multi-events so you have to close it down between each event view. This isn't my first system and I do a lot of computer work so I am in a better situation to understand the technical aspect than some, but that said if you want to start delving a little deeper into the settings it becomes unnecessarily complicated due to no manual or guide and I've been fine tuning for 2 weeks and i'm almost there (i hope), I feel I need to point out that if you are not connecting it to the internet you need to disable the beeping in the settings, although i strongly advise you to do so, the unit itself is extremely good and has a lot of hidden features, which once again can be aided by a in depth manual if you can find one. The playback on the DVR unit is pretty good with smart sensor and event notification to jump to events so i have no fault with cameras or the DVR. To sum it up this is about the best you will get for less than (not allowed to put in price) and I am sure the bugs will be ironed out of the mobile software and event viewing (mobile). If you want better then you will have to fork out a lot more money than this. So, system is good. support, guide and manual non-existent and remote viewing good. Event/motion viewing diabolical, again this is the event push notifications via the mobile software, not via the DVR as this seems flawless so far. Also the cameras do look cheap but that's probably because they are. in my opinion this is well worth the money and is far better than some i have seen for far more money, by the time people start reading this i am hoping to have sorted out my motion detection (region, threshold and sensitivity) errors as they are way to sensitive, a cat sets of the ones in my garden and a moth can set of the ones in my man cave ( its a big moth) so i need to desensitize it a little. buy it and i don't think you will be disappointed, I am also messaging the app people to fix the multi-event viewing via mobile app so maybe this will be sorted soon too. Absolutely love the security it provides and i can see if someone trespasses or if my son nicks my booze from my man cave. i will also keep my eye on the Q&A section to help out if i can for a few weeks as the answers on there don't seem to help enough IMO when you will be spending a few hundred on something. cheers Shaun

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good but... Ok so I wanted an inexpensive 8 camera DVR with the highest resolution at the cheapest price. After looking in all the usual places at Unbranded makes I decided to go with this package. I have used FLIR thermal cameras in work and thought this might live up to the same quality standards. So the cameras are small and discrete, I have them at the front of the house and they are barely noticeable. They give a good degree of adjustment. They are all plastic so if you think they may be abused then maybe look for something else. The day picture is clear and bright and the camera work to a low light before the IR kicks in. The IR has a good range but the illumination doesn't spread too far and the LEDs glow red. I have had to use cables longer than those supplied (30m vs 18m) and on those cameras I get a little interference despite using proper HQ shotgun CCTV cables. Have tried 2 other makes of cables and still the same. I haven't got to the bottom of why this is happening. Ther software on the device is quite flexiable. I have the DVR sited remotely and a 10m HDMI cable with IR control so I can use the remote control on a TV located neatly away from the DVR and it's wiring. The unit can take an audio input but you need to buy a mic separately. I added this to the camera by the front door. The main issue I have with this now is technical support. I have changed passwords to the DVR and cannot get logged in to admin. There is no reset on the DVR. I submitted a ticket 24th Oct and it took to 7th Nov, 2 weeks for them to tell me I need to call them. So I have tried the UK number repeatedly and no answer, just recorded messages. I just tried calling the main US number and no answer. Maplin, you are investing in setting nice lorex points of sale in your shops but you need to make sure the backup and support is there! I would give this 4 stars as a product but support drags it down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I bought this CCTV system couple of weeks ago. Just had it fitted & although the set up is fairly simple I found it frustrating ( I'm not tech minded). The setting up of the online monitoring part was a little complicated but Maplin sent me a different link & it worked!. For the money you won't get better. I looked at many CCTV systems & decided that £ for £ this Lorex 8 camera system was by far the best value. Maplin staff were very helpful with advice before & after purchase. I'd recommend Lorex & Maplin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb for the money There is a limit to what you can reasonably expect from a CCTV system with 8 full HD 1080p cameras for £360 - and with this in mind this system easily exceeds expectations. The total system cost works out at just £45 per camera! Quality of the image is very good in ideal light, obviously degrading in poor light. The sensors have to be small at this price (or anything remotely near) and ANY small sensor will struggle to give a really sharp image in low light. However, in poor light this still produces far better images than my older lower resolution system gave in perfect light. Night vision is much as you would expect, perfectly adequate. To maximise quality simply ensure you position cameras to avoid getting too much sky (or other bright light source) in the image area (minimise the difference between the darkest areas and lightest areas in the scene - as is good practice with any camera at any price unless tying for special effects), so angle downwards if outside - this will also help avoid flare when sun is low. Installation is simplicity itself - other than routing the cables which will obviously vary from property to property. I needed to order 2 longer cables than those supplied but this is largely because of issues routing cables in my property, most will not have an issue. The software only allows you to view the timeline or playback of 4 cameras at a time, not the full 8. You can select any 4 cameras (or a single camera), but you cannot see visually when all 8 have been triggered together/in sequence (motion detection) or view the (up to) 8 images along side each other. I find this an irritation and is the reason for 4 stars not 5. I have 2 cctv systems on my land, one for protecting the house / garden area and one for the separate office buildings / parking areas. I bought 1 of these systems to replace the house system, and now, after evaluating the system, intend buying a second for the office / parking areas. Overall, I find it impossible to meaningfully criticise this system for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product After looking at hundreds of products and reviews on various websites, we settled on this piece of kit. It's good quality, easy to use and the picture is brilliant. It was really simple to install as well. The function to be able to watch upto 4 cameras at once wherever you are is brilliant. Only downside, is the horrible beep it makes when the internet isn't connected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product Product is what it is - good quality CCTV kit. Affordable (paid about £360 when on special offer). It has caught a few incidents already so well worth the spend. Easy to install and mobile app is also good.

I wish to locate a camera approx. 25m away and as I am not using all the cameras yet I thought I would join 2 sets of 18m cables together. This has worked but keep loosing image due to a poor connection with the coupler . can you suggest best coupler.

Asked by: Frank
Try not to use 2 cables connected together as these loose image quality easier than a single cable. I use 2 of my cameras on 50m leads which are from ebay and are the cheapest i could buy. There is slight image degrading but this may be solved by buying better quality cables. If you do use a cable connector (due to cost) make sure it is protected from the elements as this will cause more picture degradation when damp or wet.

can you view from you mobile

Asked by: chris
NOT on a Microsoft Phone. Android and Apple have apps to download via the app stores and on a computer you can download software. There is no way to run this on a Windows devise (tablet/phone) except a pc/laptop due to executable's not running on windows mobile software.

Can you please tell me if IP cameras can be added to this DVR through the network as many DVRs allow at least one to be, sometimes up to 4. If so what is the max MP it can handle?

Asked by: Paul1999
IP cameras cannot be added to this system

Hi, with the motion detection is it able to take a photo under certain hours and email this to an address?

Asked by: Chris
the short answer is yes but it will need to be set up. you can have it send video (15 seconds or more) or an image and it can be sent to email or push notifications to phones/tablets. if you want it in a room for example you can turn it on and ANY motion will alert you but if you want it for outside you may have to play with the sensitivity as cats or even heavy shadows can set it off. you can set it to work only during certain hours and days and there is even a holiday mode.

If i need to have the camera on a 60m cable how do i power it independently? exactly what additional equipment do i need to order? thank you

Asked by: paul
this is in case someone else looks for an answer. the power and camera feed cable are the same cable so as long as you order the correct cable it will also contain the power bit
