With remote connectivity, you can view live and recorded video anywhere you go - with free apps for your smart device to help you stay connected. Playback and control your system from the rechargeable wireless LCD monitor and have truly portable use. The wireless cameras are robust, weather-resistant and compact in design, making them ideal for use both indoors and outdoors. The built-in microphone and speakers mean you can pick up audio on your recordings, and communicate with people near the camera using the monitor or a connected smartphone/tablet.

How much storage will I have?

All you need to do is fix each camera to your desired location, plug the power adapters in and power up the monitor. The cameras work with a range of up to 165ft (50m) indoor and 660ft (200m) outdoor (unobstructed), providing you with the flexibility to place the cameras in a variety of different locations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clear picture and audio - but uses memory fast We purchased this for our home and it was installed very quickly. To get the best out of it you need to use a high resolution, but the audio and video quality are very good if you do. The downside is that an 8GB memory card will only last a day or two at the most if you do this and then it overwrites what was recorded, so make sure you have at least a 64GB memory card. Otherwise it is a good system.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but with a few tweaks could be so much better I bought this kit at the launch price about 4 months ago so thought it was good value then, and it is probably still competitive at the current price. I have now installed both cameras: the first on the front door frame in the the front door porch to view the front path, and more recently the second I have mounted on an external wall to view the back gate and back door. Basically I am pleased with the instillation, the cameras do a good job displaying and recording clear images, and I only need to change the supplied 8mb memory card about once a month. However there are a number of irritations that you need to be aware of, and where quite frankly Lorex should seek to make improvements. How weather proof are the cameras ? Maplin state “UK-weather resistant cameras, great to use outdoors”, whilst Lorex on their UK web site are somewhat ambivalent about this. Their sales literature talks about “The robust, weather-resistant wireless cameras“, but the User Guide, which contains the installation instructions, paints a more restrictive picture. Under the heading “Installing the cameras” it advises “Cameras are suitable for outdoor installation, but are weather resistant, not weatherproof. Cameras are not intended for direct exposure to rain or snow. For outdoor applications, install under shelter protected from the elements, such as beneath roof eaves.” How is that for hair splitting ? Since I had to mount on an external wall with no eaves for shelter I have lashed up a light weight weather protection “housing” from an empty 1.5ltr plastic bottle and gaffer tape that simply sits on, and surrounds, the camera. I hope it does the trick. How long is the supplied power cable to the camera ? The power supply cable comes in 2 parts: about 1.7m attached to the 13 amp plug/transformer power supply itself, and a further 2.10 m attached to the camera. They connect using an in-line plug & socket connection so the whole length “power supply to camera” is about 3.8 m. If that is not enough the beauty of this arrangement is that you only need to buy a suitable length extension lead and plug it in. You would expect Maplin to sell them but they don't. But don't despair you can get them if you search the web for "5 Metre DC Power Extension Cable with 1.3mm/3.5mm Jack" Does it work out of the box as promised ? Mine did not, so I had to send it back, but the replacement did. Quite frustrating particularly as the “Quick Start Guide” provided is only of any use if everything works to plan. If it does not you need to download the full User Guide from the lorextechnology.co.uk site. Does it live up to the claimed “Up to 165ft (50m) indoor / 660ft (200m) outdoor wireless range for Wi-Fi ?” I think you have to take those claims with a large pinch of salt. First note the small print caveat that those are direct line of sight distances which are reduced by internal or external walls. My monitoring screen is on the first floor of our terraced house so about a metre above where the cameras are mounted. It is about 5m from the one in the front porch (so through a floor, internal wall and external wall) which works fine giving a solid picture, and about 12m from the one at the back of the house (also through a floor, internal wall and external wall) but occasionally that one will lose transmission for a few seconds, so I am guessing that is the W-Fi at about its limit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than happy I bought this a few months ago and I am totally happy with it. I have one of the cameras outside on my garage and one inside it. With a plan to fit another to the back of the house. It was very easy to install and is very intuitive. I did buy a 64GB card for it to give me more memory. I have it connected to the internet via a Lan cable and I have bought a range extender plug so I can sit it next to any power point in the house. I downloaded the app to my phone and my wifes phone so that we both get a text message if it detects motion and we can both view the cameras from anywhere using the internet. I also plan to buy a spare camera that I can hook up in my house if we go away and in conjunction with my Yale alarm that will call our phones if activated we would get a text if the camera is disturbed and therefore can check the house if we need to. One other handy thing is that you can use voice from the phone (or the monitor) over the camera as well as hear anything being said. All in all in my opinion a really good buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective and easy to set up Came promptly and easy to set up basically. The daytime defintion on the colour image is very good (rather better than a previous one from you Maplin that I have) but the night time picture is not quite so good as my earlier one but still gives a good readable image. Overall a good buy if rather expensive £300 for a simple two camera set up. I would prefer a slightly larger monitor if available.

My setup beeps a lot even when no motion is detected. Sometimes the screen goes blank for a second or two after a beep. Why should this be occurring?

Asked by: Hepp
This is probably a Beep to alert of video loss.
