A retro games console with a twist
The MAKERbuino has taken handheld gaming back to basics. From the initial concept of the MAKERbuino Standard make your own kit, this Assembled version comes ready to program and play. It takes away the solder work and leaves you to concentrate on learning and discovering ways to program your own games. This Assembled unit provides you with a stripped-down games console in a retro design. Embrace the nostalgia while viewing graphics on the Nokia 5110 monochrome LCD with a white backlight. The MAKERbuino Assembled console’s front face has a D-Pad and ABC push buttons, all of which have exchangeable caps. This console comes with a 128MB SD card ready loaded with lots of games to get you started. A 0.5W speaker and a 3.5mm headphone connector means you can enjoy the sounds from classic games as well as other media and whatever you choose to program into your MAKERbuino.
Discover retro games from yesteryear
The MAKERbuino Assembled has resurrected retro gaming. Whether you have always loved shooting down aliens on Space Invaders and running from ghosts on Pacman, or whether you’re experiencing these simple and fun games for the very first time, the retro gaming world welcomes you home. There are enough games loaded onto the included SD card to keep you entertained for a while, however when you want to find more and learn more about the Gamebuino community, you have full access to the Gamebuino website. This website includes a vast, open source games library, very thorough how-to guides, lots of tips and tricks, a forum to discuss your MAKERbuino experiences and ideas with other makers and much more. The games suitable for your MAKERbuino aren’t comparable to contemporary graphics and gameplay, but this retro console puts its emphasis on the educational side of gaming. Makers and gamers alike will discover a variety of new skills and get to play with and practice making something that is truly rewarding. This learning experience can be easily shared with friends and family, and you can introduce new people to concepts in coding, programming, hardware expansion and lots more all through this clever, handheld console.
Modify and customise your console
The MAKERbuino can be modified and customised. With changeable button caps for all seven buttons, you can choose a colour and run with it. You can create a theme for your console or simply cover it with your favourite colours. Spare button caps can be bought separately. The MAKERbuino has a variety of extension options, so if you want to delve into the world of components and practice soldering, this console will facilitate that. The Gamebuino website will provide you with help and ideas along the way. With hackable software and hardware, the MAKERbuino can be adapted to control your quadcopter and even connect to the internet by an added WiFi module. CAD designing and 3D printing are also an integral part of the MAKERbuino customisation feature. You can design CNC cut or 3D printed casing for your MAKERbuino to make your console truly unique while learning another new skill. Once you’re happy with all your mods, you can delve back into the world of retro games and program your very own.
