About this product

Overview

Product overview

• 100W mains powered soldering iron that allows you to start soldering by simply plugging the iron in
• Heats up in 10 minutes to give you a stable and constant temperature so you can complete all your soldering tasks
• Temperature ranges from 480°C to 500°C, depending on wattage, allowing you to store heat in the tip to aid the melting process
• No restrictions on how long you can use this soldering iron as it is mains powered

What use is this soldering iron designed for?
This mains powered soldering iron outputs up to 100W of heat, giving you a fixed temperature of between 480°C and 500°C to solder with. The included power switch and mains power makes it ideal for prolonged workshop use. As this soldering iron has a high output, it is ideal for heavy duty use such as soldering electrical wires or large contacts.

What difference does the wattage make?
The wattage of a soldering iron is one of the most important factors when deciding which one to buy. Higher wattage will deliver more power to the iron’s tip, allowing it to heat up quicker. As this is a 100W mains soldering iron, it heats up the tip within ten minutes, allowing you to start soldering without having to refill butane tanks or replace batteries.

Do I need anything else for this soldering iron?
The soldering iron itself is ready to go out of the box, simply remove the cover and plug it in and it will begin warming up to temperature. The only other thing you need to get started is the solder itself. Within ten minutes of plugging in the iron, you will be ready to begin soldering.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage- self destructing Instructions say may smoke for the first 10 minuets, what it does not say is that about as long as the iron will last, second one now. Just kills its self after about 10 mins. Taking back for cash refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value, powerful iron I chose this soldering iron because it has a pointed bit, rather than the blunt chisel bit you usually find on 100W irons. This made it suitable for soldering cables into a power control circuit board, with tight access next to other components. Also plenty of power to solder cables to "Deans" style connectors. The iron smoked a little for the first few minutes, as per the instructions, but then cleared up. The power switch in the handle is more convenient than having to unplug the iron in between soldering operations too. Overall, a good value buy and welcome addition to my toolbox.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feel the power Bought this soldering iron as my old one wasn't up to the job . This one handled solder 30amp cables with ease. Only one criticism it's a little heavy to use . But job done

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bags of heat! Excellent tool. Only down side is the lack of alternative tips despite it being a Maplin, own product. A powerful soldering iron with no chisel type tip is a let down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maplin 100W Soldering Iron Purchased this for soldering heavy duty connections for RC batteries and speed controllers.Another brand wasn't up to the task so tried this.Although heavy, balances well and nice pointed tip.On off switch is handy.Plenty of power and retains heat in tip very well.Larger than some similar soldering irons.Overall highly satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from powerful bugger! I brought this item to do some in house repairs on custom mechanical mods and found it melting through the solder like a hot knife through butter, for the price I really cannot complain!! 5 star

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value One of the few high output soldering irons on the market but at a really good price. Great for any heavy duty soldering requirements.
