What is the advantage of this drive?
This external drive embodies the speed of a solid state drive (SSD) while being portable to carry around with you. It allows you to keep your files on the drive for use at any time as well as being perfect to back up your most important documents and pictures in case of emergency. 128GB will give you enough storage for approximately 24 hours of high definition video or over 70,000 photos so you’ll never have to worry about running out of space.

How portable is the drive?
The drive is very lightweight coming in at 45g and the physical dimensions put it no bigger than a smartphone meaning you can carry it in your laptop bag or even your pocket without it becoming a burden.

Will USB 3.0 work with my computer?
The USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. This means you can use your drive with almost any computer, some newer TVs and even some soundbars. All this allows you to transfer files, watch films on your television and play music through your soundbar, making this a versatile drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, what a find. Whilst browsing your Liverpool Street store looking for Internal SSD's one of your assistants pointed these out to me. I have a MacMini 2012 2.5GHZ modle and wanted to upgrade the internal HD to SSD. He suggested I tried this very small, lightweight unit. Got it home, plugged into the MacMini - Formatted disc, loaded OS X Yosemite 10.10, selected as startup drive - and the speed and response is amazing - blisteringly fast compared with old HD - everything loads instantly - at the price this is unbeatable - my only gripe - why only 128gb versions - 256 and 512 at comparable prices and its unbeatable - highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value, Extremely Quickl I bought this so that my wedding photographer can provide me with a copy of the RAW files, which are large in size, so speed was important to reduce the copying time. I did a quick test on my home computer using a USB 3.0 port and managed to write a 4GB video file at a sustained 175MB/s! The case feels a little cheap, but for my purpose its ideal.

Could I use this to speed up my old - 2010 - Macbook? How do I put the operating system onto it?

Asked by: AllanH
This is an external drive so is for storage, and would not be suitable to upgrade an internal drive, you would need one of the ones linked below: https://www.maplin.co.uk/c/computing-gaming/hard-drives-data-storage/ssd-solid-state-drives

Why can't my Windows 7 Ultimate PC see this drive as a device, I bought this drive to back up my important documents but I now find that it's completely useless.

I have a Samsung TV that records to an external USB. A flash drive (USB key) won't work. When inserted into a PC, can this drive be partitioned ? if it can it might work with the PC. Anyone tried these on a TV ?

Wife has an iPad. Am I correct that the iPad operating system is incompatible with this ssd? If so is there a suitable external ssd for Apple/iPad devices? Any info appreciated

Asked by: UncertainJim
Unfortunately, due to the restrictions placed on external device connections by Apple, there are very few wired drives which will connect to an iPad. If you were looking for larger storage then portable wireless drives may be more suitable. While not an SSD, something like this would be what I am referring to. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/wd-wireless-1tb-my-passport-portable-hard-drive-a93rq

Power consumption is 6W (active) from a 5V supply so the current will be 1.2A which seems a very high drain from a USB socket. I am considering driving it via an opto-isolator. Do you know of a reasonably priced one that can handle the current?
