• 240VAC mains socket to power a product without additional converters

Power your devices from a truck, car or solar panel

This Maplin 12V 300W Inverter is a converter that connects to a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery that is usually connected to a car, a truck or a solar panel. The inverter can connect to the battery either through a car accessory plug or by clipping directly to the battery. A mains powered device can then be plugged directly into the inverter’s AC socket.

Highly compact and safe to use
This Maplin 12V 300W inverter connects to the car battery using the car accessory socket or the included alligator clips. Its compact design allows you to place the inverter where it is needed without it becoming a hazard. The inverter can power a device up to 300W such as a laptop, a phone charger or a portable games console. It is highly efficient, converting over 85% of its energy into output power. This 12V inverter includes shutdown protection to power down the inverter if the battery power drops below a certain level.

Power your every day appliances
A pure sinewave inverter can power electronics such as motors, power tools or clocks, including products with more sensitive component parts. Unlike a modified sinewave inverter, there will be no electrical interference. This 12V pure sinewave inverter improves a user’s experience with this type of product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The manufacturer advised that the inverter on/off switch cuts off the 12v battery input so you don't have to worry about standby draining the battery when off. I have only tried this with a total load off 120 watts being a 32 inch LED TV + 2 x 11watt low energy lamps and a pond pump. The output was rock steady at 231volts & 49.5 hz.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A spare fuse is provided in the box, trouble is, it is the wrong type being a glass tube type not the spade automotive type required. Only one fuse supplied, but as two fuses fitted are wired in parrallel, if fault or wrong polarity input applied, both fuses will 'blow' and 2 replacements will be required. It does however, do what it says on the box. I would have rated 6 stars if it had 2 spare fuse of the correct type and instructions of how to open up to replace them. (Take 2 bottom screws out at each end, base comes off).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is the only type of inverter to buy if you want to power inductive loads like central heating pumps. This inverter gives a very stable 230v at a rock steady 50 hz. Really good value for money from Maplin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! Slight buzz Iv been using the inverter to convert battery power for a PA system. Usually have it running 2-4 hours at a time. Has worked fine for me. My only criticism is that I have a low level electronic buzz coming out of the pa that ideally would not be there. Unable to pin it down to only the inverter but I'd assume it is the culprit as the only other components are the batteries. Other than that it's great!

I've been using this product for over a year and its great! However, I now have the need for a longer 12VDC input, is there such a thing sold separately?

On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

can I plug 3 socket extension lead into the inverter plug socket to power 3 items at the same time?

Asked by: trevor
You would be better off plugging a power surge protector extension into the inverter. This would significantly reduce the likelihood of damage when starting up or shutting down

What size dc cables are supplied with this device as a 300 watt inverter running at 300w will demand a current of 25Amps. No cigar lighter socket could cope with that and the croc clip cables look too small? Fire in the offing?

Asked by: Cornish chewey
The cables supplied work fine with the item. Unfortunately, the size of the cable is not included in the specifications.

Can I use a solar panel to recharge?

Asked by: Tintin30
This inverter draws it's power from a 12v battery. (typically a car, solar or leisure battery). It is possible to use a solar panel to recharge the battery that you are using, but the inverter itself does not have anything that can be "recharged"

Does this give full output when plugged into the 12v socket in the car or just when connected directly to the battery?

Asked by: Andrew1989
Yes, I am pleased to advise the item will support this use.

I have bought one of these and would like to know what the different beeps mean as it does not explain in the manual. Whilst using my laptop it has started making a long constant beep but does not cut out. What does this mean?
