How do I use this kit?
This lighting kit gives you a warm white effect wherever it is installed, for example, under a kitchen cabinet, a book case or in a display case. Once you have decided where you are going to install the lighting, check to see if the strip is a suitable size before removing the backing on the adhesive and attaching the lighting strips where needed. Then simply route the cable so that it is not an obstruction before connecting to the strip and into the mains and powering up your new light.

How long will this lighting kit last?
The LED lighting in this starter kit has a lifespan of up to 15,000 hours to give you peace of mind. It does not require maintenance or any bulb replacements, so you can just sit back and enjoy it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible piece of kit I just bought this kit today in order to put under the cupboard in the kitchen. Straight out of the box one of the strips had a faulty connection with other strips having different color temperatures. The replacement wasn't better either. 2 faulty strips one after the other really shows the level of quality the manufacturer provides -or rather fails completely at. The "3M" strip on the back can't even hold the weight of the strip, so I had to apply no more nails to the strip which of course ruined the connection even more. All in all I would advise against getting this as it's just money down the drain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Purchased to replace pygmy bulbs in a display cabinet. The pygmies ran too hot and melted their lampholders. The strip LEDs light the cabinet just as well as the pygmies but run cool, so no damage or fire risk. Lower power consumption too. The extension kit would be more versatile if it included an two sets of pin connectors and extra connection leads to permit physical separation of daisy chained strips (different shelves in my application) - one star deducted because I'll have to get out my soldering iron to extend a "kit" product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This seems mostly a good quality item with good light output, but the connectors are flimsy and liable to slip apart easily without a bit of PVC tape to help. I was hoping for a smoother fade when dimming and to be able to fade out completely, but of course they are not sophisticated enough for that. The pre-programmed buttons on the remote labelled 'smooth' and 'fade' suggest they might, but sadly they are just pretty obnoxious flashes very close to the strobe effect. I was disappointed not to be able to buy the connector cables and strips separately, and had to buy an extension kit just for one cable. All in all, they did the basic job I wanted and at the short notice I had. Nice variety of colours too. The salesperson in Belfast Boucher Road was excellent; very knowledgeable and helpful, thanks!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good in places but poor adhesive Bought these to go under some kitchen cabinet pelmets. Colour rendering is good, not that horrible blue-white you get with some LEDs, and nice and bright giving plenty of light onto the worktop. The backing tape is useless and had to be replaced with decent industrial double-sided tape to stop the strips falling off. One thing that is not clear is that the strips are polarity-sensitive: you have to make sure that they are plugged in the right way round or they don't work. Maplin need to make this more obvious as the polarity indicators are VERY small!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not that good a fixing Just perchased thease and alto the lighting is good am not inpressed with the adhesive strip its self. Poor fixing keeps coming away and as its on the back of tv its annoying. Having to use thin strips of duck tape to hold inplace. Not the right way i know.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK, but definitely not dimmable ! Bought this in a local store on impulse whilst getting other items. The good - easy to put together, quite bright, very good for under cupboard use. The bad - adhesive tape could be better, could do with a few more joiner parts in the kit for more install options. The remote is just on/off inline switch, definitely not dimmable - at least in the current form, so Mr Maplin, please amend your online description, it will save a lot of frustration for many.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good once I found the extension kit I bought this kit to use with a light box for photographing. I wasn't sure it would be bright enough but it is. I needed a few more light strips though. Although Maplin said they didn't sell them a extension kit showed up when I went to checkout with another starter kit. So they do sell packs of extra led strips and I am now happy with the product. No thanks to customer service though and their lack of help.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inaccurate description and very bright Be warned, despite the description, these are NOT dimmable, there is NO remote and the light effect is not particularly warm - and worse, they are ridiculously bright. One strip could attract light aircraft. Not suitable for ambient bookshelf lighting in a living room whatsoever because of this, might be fine for under kitchen cabinets. Get 2 stars because they work.

Description says remote control included. Mine didn't have one. Some also say it's dimmable, others no. Can anyone tell me roughly what percentage of the description is actually accurate!?

Asked by: beelzebomb
These are dimmable with the starter pack, which does include the remote control to achieve this. Maplin Strip RGB Mains Powered Lighting Kit Code: A24LJ
