How do I use this kit?
This kit gives you subtle lighting for use in kitchen cabinets, desks or even book cases. The flexible strips each have an adhesive strip applied to the rear which will allow you to position each one exactly where you need it. You could use them on each level of a book case, or as a single strip light under a long row of kitchen cabinets. The included remote allows you to change smoothly between a range of vivid colours. Once you have selected your desired colour the kit will stay on the same colour until it is changed again. It also has several built-in effects such as flash and strobe to create the perfect party atmosphere when you have guests over. The brightness can be altered through the remote control to give you the perfect effect during the day or night.

You can add up to six additional strips by purchasing this extension kit.

How long will this lighting kit last?
The LEDs in this lighting kit have a lifespan of up to 15,000 hours. This will give you peace of mind over the coming years that you won’t have to replace any strips because a bulb has failed. If a strip ever does fail, it is simple to replace by unplugging the power cable and unsticking the strip before replacing with a new one. For peace of mind, this kit is has a twelve month warranty in case of any faulty parts (proof of purchase required).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 'I love these lights !' They are very customisable too. You'll notice on each strip 4 cutting marks, either side of the cutting marks are 4 solder contact points, (if you need to, or wish to, like I did) you can split these 3 long strips into 15 smaller strips, being careful to cut back the clear protective rubber, and ensuring you don't connect the 12v power rail to a LED ground leg, you can wire them back up and string these out over a longer distance. It worked perfectly and my boy has a great bedroom with dimmerable remote control coloured lighting :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice kit, however beware that the LED remote receiver reacts to some other TV remotes (Humax, PS3,..?) , so if you press your TV remote, the LEDs may change colour, brightness, or switch off/on! Of course there is a way to overcome this by placing or shielding the LED control receiver from direct line of sight when you use your other remotes, but if you are relying on using the LED remote from a wider range of angles around a room , you may have a problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Purchased a kit and the extender pack . Great lights easy to fit, Lots of different colours/shades to choose from. The automatic changing colours function is fab when having a get together, who needs to go clubbing lol... I Like how you can dim them too. The sticky wasn't as sticky as needed and the first morning after fitting I found them on the worktops but this was soon solved with a bit of help from some more sticky. Would recommend and several of my friends asked where they were from as they want them. Would of rated them 5 if it wasnt for the sticky..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb, very stylish a multitude of lighting options 16 colour buttons and various modes of flashing, fading etc. Can't wait to get an extension kit and have them on every wall. Bright enough to use without your mains lighting in the white colour mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These LED strips are quite amazing. Surprisingly bright for their size and easy to fit just about anywhere. I have a base and extension kit lighting my entire living room for movie night and it adds a great bit of atmosphere. The "Flexible" elements of this is slightly misleading as the strip is only flexible in one direction. Imagine trying to stick sellotape down. Works fine around the reel or a present but try laying it out in the shape of an "S" and it buckles. What this pack needs is a couple of small link leads so you could lay it out as a series of straight lines and get a "Z" maybe. If you own a soldering iron then you (like I) can knock this up in a few minutes. All in all this is working really well for me and I ordered more before the price goes back up. At full price I would think a lot harder about it but the offer price is a no-brainer. If you happen to have a small child in the house (2 and 4 years old in my case) then it's a really devious way of distracting them and stopping grumbles. Also my 2 year olds naming of colours is coming on a treat! Enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a bit of a novelty, but works very well indeed. The range of colours is amazing and the transistions more than you would ever need, operated by remote control from your sofa! Instructions could be better, both for operation and for fitting, but you work it out eventually - with trial and error! The self adhesive on the LED strips has to be carefully exposed (to avoid taking it off with the covering), and you need to be aware that one of the sections seems to be an 'end' to which others can't be connected. I also bought the extension kit and ran all 6 sections as one 3m fitting above a fireplace alcove - so I have a lot of parts left over (which are needed for splitting and reaching separate areas, say within a cupboard). The effect is very good (although I suspect that it will be left semi-permanantly on one off-white colour) and quite cost effective (at the promo price) compared with more basic solutions - and the LED aspect means that the running costs will be very low.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this for my wife because she really likes ambient lighting. I fitted the three 50cm strips side-by-side under a shelf in the living room and the colours are bright and vibrant. There are plenty of variations using the remote, i.e. fade, strobe, flash or static colours, and the lights can be dimmed to a very subtle glow. The speed of the colour change settings can be adjusted using the "brightness levels" buttons (up/down), although this isn't mentioned in the instructions. Fitting the lights and connections was quite easy, but quite fiddly at times, and I fitted a home-made rubber cord grip at the cable end, in order to support the three connection plugs and cable, so that it doesn't pull on the adhesive backing strip. Fast delivery from Maplin - very pleased with my purchase.

I plan to use it on 12v. Do the LEDs run on 12v (without the mains adaptor obviously) ?

Do you have an extension cable available to place between 4 way spitter and light strip?

Asked by: Mr C
On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

I purchased the A99KU kit to go under the kitchen cupboards. I can connect all three led strips together using the supplied pins. However when I use the connecting cables, in between each led strip, they fall out. Is this the correct way to extend them.

Can these be hooked up to the mains power supply and turned on and off by a standard switch on the wall as you would your spotlights for example?

Asked by: LillyJ91
I can confirm these are mains powered and can be switched off via the mains, when these units are being turned on however this would have to be done with the included remote.
