Reliable, high quality recording
The Maplin M220 Dash Cam is an excellent choice for recording events on the road in 720p HD quality to help reduce insurance quotes and assist with making a claim. With sufficient lighting, you’ll also get great quality recordings when driving at night. You can watch recordings back on the 2.3 inch built-in screen to review any events that have happened. The built-in G-sensor will allow the dash cam to record any impacts or sudden course changes so that the event is protected on the memory card. The G-sensor’s parking mode will allow the dash cam to record events even when the vehicle is empty with the built-in vibration sensor. A date and time stamp is also included on the recording to prevent any dispute.

Plenty of room for all your footage
This Maplin 720p Dash Cam uses a class 10 micro SD card, between 2GB and 32GB (not included), to record any event on the road. A 32GB memory card will give you approximately three hours recording time. When the memory card becomes full, an auto loop function will allow the dash cam to begin recording over existing video files in chronological order. Once the memory card is installed, the dash cam can be suction mounted directly onto the windscreen and is powered by a built-in battery or the in-car power supply. The dash cam will then automatically turn on and start recording when the engine is started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value Dashcam Wasn't really sure whether to go for a dash cam, but my wife wanted one for security, so I decided to try out a cheaper one first. Got this one half price. Easy to fit, including hiding the cable, which is plenty long enough. Bit fiddly to get the micro SD card to stay put as you have to really push it all the way in with something other than your fingers. Switched on and it worked a treat. Great picture and pretty easy controls. Checked out the first recording on my computer and it was pretty clear. Great dashcam for the money. I'm ordering another one for my car now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good little camera Very good easy installation play back quality on PC is excellent. Can't understand review stating it does not automatically wipe files down as mine seems to ok easy to install and the windscreen suction pad actually holds it firm which makes a pleasant change with such products good basic recording features just leave it running and it does the job

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basic but good Had this as a Christmas pressie and have fitted it already. Doesn't have WiFi or other 1080p definition but is still HD and is just lovely and simple. The clips loop well and play on the PC. You only want to see it work when you have an incident you need to look at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great budget camera Bought this yesterday as other retailer had sold out of identical nextbase camera. Quick and easy to install and foolproof to use. Set up in literally 5 minutes. Ignore other reviews on here, I bought a class 10 ultra high speed memory card on sale at a popular high street pharmacy ;-) and have had no problems having to format or file corruption. 10/10. Thanks Maplin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Dashcam It does everything i expect and more. It's one of those products that you hope you won't need but it's there when you do. The small size means that it fits unobtrusively behind the rear view mirror without obscuring the windscreen. Inexpensive price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be improved quite a bit I bought this unit about four weeks ago, and although it seems to preform well enough, and is easy to programme, I was disappointed to find that when the recording time was up a panel came on the screen telling me that the Disk was full. I then had to remove the camera from it's mount and manually Format the card (which cleaned everything off it) and replace it for another three hours run.(or change the card with a new one) not easy on a French motorway in the dark. My windscreen had been smashed by a large rock, and I wanted the shot for the insurance company. According to the description (obviously incorrect) the unit is supposed to be on a loop where it will start to record over previous recordings once the disk was full, so the whole thing should be automatic. Also, if you download the recording of the whole disk on to the computer, it is in seperate 5 minute thumbnail clips, but the clips all have the same number, so if you find a clip with an event on it you wish to retain, you have to be very careful to make sure you have the right clip before pressing Save. If you do have an 'event' and want to be able to recover the right clip later, make sure that you make a careful note of the time of the event when it happens (if you can be that cool under stress ) as the clips are time related. (you have to open one first to see the time imprint). I bought this one as a 'starter' but I think I will soon buy a better one now that I have had some experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unobtrusive save you time & money get a better model. Returning mine as it will record perfectly but on playback the first 20 files are fine, all the others have corrupted files and unplayable. Even after transfering to a PC still wont play. Spend a little but more and get a better model

Does it need to be plugged into the power point constantly or do you charge it and it lasts a certain length of time. Thanks

Thanks Darren but the question is HOW do I do it? As there is no description as to how you actually make the screen blackout in the rubbish little manual that comes with it.

Asked by: ijcheers
The screen should black out automatically after a few seconds of driving

Hi I have two of these they are great not sure they are overwriting as I get card full any ideas?

Asked by: Alan
This recorder features a Gravity Force / Accelerometer device know as a G-Sensor, which will detect any sudden changes in forces acting on the vehicle (lurch forward/ hard braking / impacts). If any of these forces are sensed then the current recording is LOCKED on the card and cannot be overwritten by normal recording action. This feature was originally designed to LOCK recordings to prevent them being accidentally erased in the event of an accident. Unfortunately the current state of many roads in the UK means that our vehicles are subject to many other types of shocks, namely bumps and potholes, every time you hit a bump or pothole the G-Sensor will lock the current recording. Over time the locked recordings accumulate on the memory card until the entire memory card becomes full of locked recordings and there is no more room for storage of normal recording resulting in a CARD FULL error. The easiest solution is to either turn down the sensitivity of the G-Sensor or turn it off altogether, this will stop the issue from recurring. Another good practice is to FORMAT the memory card in the recorder at regular intervals, this will clear any locked recordings that may have been saved.

When the unit is recording, on the left hand of the screen is displayed a +/-0. Can you tell me what this signifies please? I've tried to search the already asked questions but the website won't allow me to go past the first 10!

Asked by: Russ
The symbol to which you are referring is the Brightness/Exposure setting. You can increase + or decrease - this from the current value of 0 to brighten/darken the image being recorded. https://maplindownloads.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/A44TX-manual-10442.pdf Quick tip for reading the rest of the questions.. right click on the arrow to the right of where it says 1 to 10 of 83 questions and select "open in a new tab", this will open a new tab with the next 10 questions displayed (yes we are working on a fix)

Why is this product advertised as 720p when there is an option for 1080FHD in the menu on the device, and clearly stated in the instruction manual? Is the 1080FHD mode just up-scaled 720p?

Asked by: nugger
Unfortunately we do not have this information, but we will request a unit from stock and update you shortly.
