What is USB?
Commonly found on desktop computers and laptops, USB (Universal Serial Bus) connections are one of the most versatile types of connection available. USB is primarily used for transferring data between devices, but it also has the ability to transfer power between compatible devices.

Four versions of USB currently exist, with different maximum transfer speeds: USB 3.1 (up to 10GB/s), USB 3.0 (5GB/s), USB 2.0 (480MB/s) and USB 1.1 (12MB/s). In most cases, cables are compatible across all versions – but maximum transfer speed may still be limited. For example, a USB 2.0 cable in a USB 3.0 port would only provide a maximum transfer rate of 480MB/s, not 5GB/s. To achieve optimum transfer speeds here, a USB 3.0 cable should be used.

Why use this USB Type C(M) to MicroUSB (F) adapter?
This adapter will allow you to convert a MicroUSB connection to fit into a USB Type C port . This means that you can easily convert a standard MicroUSB cable and connect it directly into a new USB-C socket on a laptop, desktop, Mac or power supply. This enables you to keep using your existing cables between two generations of technology for your devices.

Why choose Maplin cables?
The Maplin range of cables features premium construction and specifications, with market-leading cable technology. Maplin cables are constructed from hard-wearing materials with colour-coded, compact connectors available for almost any use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointment My new phone has a USB C port and already having several USB Micro cables I bought a couple of these. I'm afraid that things didn't work out as I had hoped. The phone recognised that it was connected to something, but put out messages that it was powering another device and would never charge up itself. The Micro end of the adapter would never apparently fully engage with the male plug of the cable - both adapters, two cables.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless My quality micro charge/sync cables that I had used for years fitted into the female end. The male end fitted into my new usb type c phone. Unfortunately absolutely nothing was recognized. No charging. No data. Thought it would save me having to buy all new expensive extra long cables that I need but no. Returning for refund and buying usb c versions of my trusty old cables!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't not work on Samasung Galaxy S8 Tries to charge the connected device not the phone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very useful and compact I just bought this today and it works perfectly. It's much cheaper to buy this and use an old micro USB to charge a phone with USB C, than it is to buy a whole new USB C wire.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish! I bought two of these from my local store (Barnstaple), neither of them would charge my Samsung S8! I tried different cables but the bundled adaptor worked with them all but not these. I didn't try data transfer, didn't see the point!

USB Adapter

I was thinking of buying this to charge my Nintendo Switch. I have lots of Micro USB cables from phones and joypads etc. but the Switch uses USB-C. The input for the Switch says 15V. Will this adapter (a) fit, (b) be the correct voltage?

Asked by: Neil
Unfortunately it does not. I have tested this with a 1A and 2.4A power supply and it does not charge the Nintendo Switch nor the Switch Pro Controller at either setting.
