An ideal upgrade from standard webcams, this Neptune HD Web Camera has a 720p HD sensor so you can chat in high definition. It has a built in microphone which most software will automatically adjust to get the perfect levels for clear sound.
With the magnet-attraction stand, this is easy to get the image you want, it will even stick to another metallic surface with out the stand.
This webcam is UVC which means that it will work on all modern Windows Operating systems and you will not need to install the driver, it is even Apple Mac compatible!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The camera has a fish eye effect. The focus wheel is too loose to accurately focus (even if you could get it in focus, the edge would still be blurred due to the fish eye effect). Theres a lot of noise on the video, 4:3 format not 16:9 as described. Instructions provided not for this product (also appear to have been through google translator from a foreign language). Drivers are flagged as dangerous in Windows 7 and 8. Causes BSOD and crashes when plugged in with provided driver. Mount is too flimsy to hold the camera. Annoying blue LED surround to throws off white balance and stays on as long as device is plugged in. Built in low quality tinny microphone, with interference from the rest of the electronic device because it wasn't grounded properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The is a poor product that is not worth the money. Save up a little and buy a better model. The lens is terrible, with a pronounced fisheye effect - a small focussed region in the centre and everything else blurred. The manual focusing dial is small, loose and hard to set. The sensor is not HD/720P, as far as can be ascertained, nor does the device output in a 16:9 format as claimed: it may to be a 640x480 sensor with firmware upscaling, and is rather noisy at higher resolutions. The supplied software causes Windows XP to crash erratically, and you have to override a Windows warning message to even install the package. The printed documentation provided is mininal, and gives the impression of having been written by Yoda and proof-read by Harpo Marx. It refers to two different cameras, neither of which apear to be the product supplied by Maplin. The 'blue LED' feature is horribly intrusive, with illuminated panels all around the sides and around the lens itself, emitting a bright, monochromatic blue that is both ugly and very distracting, and there is no way to turn it off (other than wrapping black insulation tape around it...). The magnetic mount is not strong enough to hold the device firmly - even a slight tap can dislodge it, and the stand itself is too light and can be twisted around easily, by movement of the overly stiff USB cable, for example. The only reason I am not returning the item for a refund is that I am going to strip it down and fit the sensor and circuit board (minus the blue LEDs) to an old SLR lens, as a hobby project. Overall, the device is one that Maplin really should not stock.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap - but poor This camera attaches to its stand with an insufficient magnet - which requires a delicate touch to position to stay in place (without rotating, tilting or just falling off). The focusing wheel is fiddly to use, and cannot possibly be used without the camera coming off it's insufficient magnet stand. If you do manage to focus the camera, only the centre portion of the image is in focus. I am returning this cheap camera - in order to pay more for something more usable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing going for it When I bought this some time ago, I quickly checked that it was working and then put it aside. I've just used it again in earnest to discover it is NOT 720 resolution but 640, as other reviewers have pointed out. I bought it originally to replace a perfectly good (and better) 640 webcam. The lens is very poor with unacceptable loss of sharpness at the edges. I too find the blue light annoying and, whilst the magnetic mount isn't the worst feature, it's still pretty useless. This webcam has nothing going for it and I won't be buying my replacement at Maplin. VERY disappointed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed :-( This was my first attempt at buying a webcam and it was a big mistake and my reason for buying it was that it was not the cheapest camera in the shop, but offered at a discounted price: now I see why. The main reason is that the magnet in the stand is too weak to hold the camera in place - you will need to support the wire to stop it acting as a lever pulling the camera down. The stand itself cannot take the weight of the camera, if you use it the way displayed on the box, but if you fold the stand back on itself it is more stable and will hold the camera if the wire is supported. I think that if the bit of metal in the camera was not hidden behind the plastic cover it might hold onto the stand better, or have the magnet on the back of the camera so that people can fashion their own stands if required. I have not returned the item to the shop as the camera itself works fine for my purposes and I have managed to fashion a temporary support for the camera

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its okay Its okay for the price, I could focus it without taking it of its stand - yes the magnet could be a bit stronger but it does allow easy positioning. Picture quality is not great in low light levels but its still budget. Sound is okay

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't load onto pc I have had this connected to my PC for months to try to use Skype. Disc supplied was no good and still can't use it. The 'magnet' is poor and looking at other reviews I think I will bin it and get something else. It's just using electricity to light up and completely redundant.

Has the item been dropped or banged at all , if the camera is still under its 12 month warranty it can be replaced in your local Maplin store, just take it there with the receipt and they can exchange it for you .
