How does this weather station work?
The various sensors included with this weather station allow you to wirelessly transmit the data collected up to 150m to your base unit. This lets you know what the weather is like without even looking or going outside. The sensors and the base unit are battery powered, giving you a portable unit you can carry around the house with you.

What data can I view with this weather station?
You can view and record a variety of data with this weather station. This includes the indoor and outdoor temperature, the humidity and air pressure as well as wind speed and direction and rain fall.

What advantage do I have viewing the data online?
By viewing the data online you can see what the weather is like while you are away from home. This makes it the perfect accompaniment to a home heating device controlled from your phone, allowing you to heat the house before you get home if it’s cold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Update on previous review Previously I had reported that the display unit had difficulty in connecting to the encrypted network, for reasons that I cannot explain it did eventually connect and is sending data to Weather Underground where I can monitor it online. I am now at a point some 6 months later and the indoor display unit is no longer working properly, while it still internet connected and sends the data to Weather Underground the display unit its self does not illuminate rendering any local display of measurements impossible. I have to say that the outdoor unit looks the part, works well and is of a reasonably high quality, it is the indoor display that is tacky in comparison and is now for return.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Professional Weather Station Brought one of these and had it up and running in a couple of hours. The manual could do with updating as the set-up in some instances is different from that shown. There is no software to connect the station to a PC although there is a mini usb socket on the device, This will connect to a usb port on a PC allowing access to the file system. Connecting to Wunderground is easy once you have set-up an account. The password to be entered into the console is the same one used to set up your Wunderground account. The sensor unit is well made and should last for a few years if maintained, as far as I can see spares are not available. The console is a pain to use as it could do with a touch screen, but all-in-all a good piece of kit for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It just works, really well My second attempt after my Oregon Scientific kit died, I was eyeing the Davis for years but worried I wouldn't get it working properly to drive my own website and charts. I was skeptical about this Maplin branded product but I took an hour or two to very carefully set everything up and now my weather is permanently available online in wunderground, including apps in my iphone and ipad. Accuracy seems to be very good, I don't really have a reference point other than some other people's nearby stations but these seem to match well. This is the same kit as the Watson W8681-Pro Professional WI-FI weather station also known as the Ambient Weather WS-1001-WIFI OBSERVER Solar Powered Wireless WiFi Remote Monitoring Weather Station in case you want more online reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy Recomended. By-the-way; the photo on (and the box) in January 2015 is different to that delivered which includes a solar panel and a slightly differnt shape, it's the one I expected from other similar offerings. Been running a week now and I am delighted in every respect, quick connection to sensors and wifi, good instructions in adequate English (hardly needed) and good display and information. Data provided seem consistent with others about me and what ageing equipment that I have. Just need to see if it lasts more than five years...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Bought this for my wife (who is a weather nut) this Christmas, great product by all accounts, easy, if a little fiddly to set up. Comes with little pole for the station but you'll need something to affix that to. (Comes with pole clamp). Great display with loads on info and a pretty intuitive interface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy! Worked straight out of the box. Had it erected and working, including uploading data to wunderground within an hour of opening the box! The pictures don't do the base station justice, it looks great! Next job is to find a way of making it talk to 'if this then that' and therefore our home thermostat

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It has everything I need! I knew nothing about weather stations but following recent gales, thought it would be great to monitor the weather at home remotely (as I work away from home). The point is that I’m a complete novice! I spent some time on google and was drawn to the Davis units. These were expensive enough but when I realised the price just about doubles if you want to connect to PC/online, I binned that idea - I hate being ripped off! I found this model in Maplin and it seemed to be everything I wanted, although the wifi range was borderline for me. I scoped out a fall-back position should the WI-FI range prove a problem and ordered it up. The unit arrived very quickly and was a breeze to set up. The integrated sensor array has a small solar panel which charges the three included rechargeable AAA batteries. I found the short stump of a pole a bit odd and rather than bolting this onto another pole, I decided to buy a B&Q 1.8M TV Aerial mast and used it instead. It was the same diameter (32mm) so I used the supplied ‘stump’ as a template and slotted and drilled the new mast to fit straight into the sensor unit. It looks much neater and is likely stronger. Whilst on the roof I found that while looking upwards at the unit, the solar panel was a great help in orienting the unit. The N S E W markings are on the top of the unit. If I understand it right, by orienting the sensor array properly, you get the best possible solar power but this also ensures the wind direction readings are correct. Into the house, I checked the signal and it seemed fine so I configured the WIFI and set up a Wundeground account. I found this simplicty itself - I had worried about firewall and port-forwarding etc but encountered no problems. The outdoor sensor array and indoor sensor unit sends WIFI signals to the Weather Station (the display unit). In turn, the WS is then connected wirelessly to the Router and then somehow straight to Weather Underground! It works a treat and the WS interface is very intuitive. A problem did manifest itself when I mounted the WS on the plasterboard wall, in that after approx 10 mins, it lost WIFI connection to the sensor array. On approaching the WS, the sensor connected again. This repeated itself over and over. I suspect the WIFI range must be on the limit and on approaching it, I must be affecting the signal. However, I took the WS off the wall and have it freestanding on the adjacent bookcase and it’s worked flawlessly for a week! The length of cable on the power supply is rather short but other than that, I thing it’s a great unit. I’ve compared my readings with local stations and believe it is very accurate so all in all, it gets full marks!

The rain gauge,on my N23DQ, has stopped working after 2 1/2 years. It clicks and clunks when fed water into the appropriate hole, but nothing registers on the receiver. I've also changed the AA batteries . All other functions appear to work. Adrian
