Why use SCART?
SCART is a standard method for transferring composite and RGB video signals with stereo input and output signals for audio down a single cable. These cables are commonly used to connect DVD players, satellite/cable or Freeview boxes to televisions that lack HDMI capabilities.

Why use triple phono cables?
Triple phono (or RCA) is another method of connecting devices to a televisions that lack HDMI ports, which is also suitable if all available SCART sockets are being used. The video and audio signals are split into individual phono cables, typically the phono connectors are colour coded to give a visual representation of the signals they carry. Yellow connectors are for video signal, red are for a right channel audio signal and white are for a left channel audio signal.

Why choose Maplin cables?

brought one of these cables to connect a samsung tv to a sky box but doses not seem to work, is this the wrong cable.

Asked by: terry
It's difficult to say without detailed info about the TV and how you are making the connections. I'd suggest contacting technical support on 0333 400 9500 You would need to explain how you are utilising the cable and where exactly you are connecting each end.

what is the switch for on the scart? and which way should this be when connected to pace sky digibox to digital tv

Asked by: lynne
The switch changes to flow of the signal from IN to OUT depending on which way round you are using the cable. I can't comment on your part6icular setup as you have not included any details of what connections you are using on each device or which way round. The following examples may help. If the scart was plugged into a TV and the phono into a set top box then the signal is coming out of the set top box and IN to the TV so you would set the switch to IN because the signal is going IN to the SCART If you were coming out of the scart on an old video recorder and in to the Yellow/red/white of a TV then you would set the switch to OUT as you are sending data OUT of the SCART.

Does this cable have a directional switch on the back - allowing for a change between input and output?

Asked by: Josh
No, but this is automatically bi-directional.

How do i connect DVD PLAYER to LG 42LB570V using mall in SCART to Triple Phono 1.5m cable

Asked by: Jacko1960
If the SCART end is in the DVD player then select OUT on the connector, if the SCART end is in the TV then select IN ... make sure you use the TV remote to select the correct input channel on the TV.

I had my Virgin Media Tivo installed last week but unfortunately my old flat panel does not have hdmi.. It´s got only component and composite video inputs. The Tivo box also has a scart output so I was wondering whether this cable would work. Thanks

Asked by: ivan
I am pleased to advise that it is suitable.
