Why use SCART?
SCART is a standard method for transferring composite and RGB video signals with stereo input and output signals for audio down a single cable. These cables are commonly used to connect DVD players, satellite/cable or Freeview boxes to televisions that lack HDMI capabilities.

Why use triple phono cables?
Triple phono (or RCA) is another method of connecting devices to a televisions that lack HDMI ports, which is also suitable if all available SCART sockets are being used. The video and audio signals are split into individual phono cables, typically the phono connectors are colour coded to give a visual representation of the signals they carry. Yellow cables are for video signal, red are for a right channel audio signal and white are for a left channel audio signal.

Just purchased a Maplin scart to triple phono - it has three jacks, the back of my Samsung TV has two holes coloured yellow and green - my jacks are red white and yellow, which goes where please?

Asked by: Richard Webb
The Yellow would go to the Yellow, this would give a video signal, the red and white are for the sound, if your TV does not have these you would need to use some external speakers to get sound.
