Commonly found on desktop computers and laptops, USB connections are among the most versatile type of connections. USB is primarily used for transferring data between devices, but it also has the ability to transfer power between compatible devices. Currently four versions of USB exist – USB 3.1 (10Gbps), USB 3.0 (5Gbps), USB 2.0 (480Mbps) and USB 1.1 (12Mbps). In most cases cables are compatible across all versions but maximum transfer speed may be limited. For example, a USB 2.0 cable in a USB 3.0 port would only provide a maximum transfer rate of 480Mbps, not 5Gbps. To achieve optimum transfer speeds here, a USB 3.0 cable should be used.
Why use this dual USB-A to micro USB-B 2.0 cable?
This cable is used to connect a variety of external micro-USB devices to your computer. Some devices, like external hard-disk drives or external optical CD/DVD drives, require more power than one USB connection can provide. To overcome this, the cable has a second inline USB-A connection to supply additional power. When used with a USB 2.0 port, the maximum data transfer rate of this cable is 480Mbps.
