What is USB?
Commonly found on desktop computers and laptops, USB connections are among the most versatile type of connections. USB is primarily used for transferring data between devices, but it also has the ability to transfer power between compatible devices. Currently four versions of USB exist – USB 3.1 (10Gbps), USB 3.0 (5Gbps), USB 2.0 (480Mbps) and USB 1.1 (12Mbps). In most cases cables are compatible across all versions but maximum transfer speed may be limited. For example, a USB 2.0 cable in a USB 3.0 port would only provide a maximum transfer rate of 480Mbps, not 5Gbps. To achieve optimum transfer speeds here, a USB 3.0 cable should be used.

This cables uses a male USB-A 3.0 port to female USB-A 3.0 port, which allows you to extend an existing connection or move a USB connection point to another location without the hassle of moving your computer. This cable can be used to passively extend your connection up to a maximum of five meters, however a larger distance can be covered with help from an active USB repeater cable. The maximum transfer rate of this cable is 5 Gbps when all devices are USB 3.0 compliant.

What AWG wire gauge is the cable? And will it supply full 2 or more amps to a device if I connect it to a charger?

Asked by: somebodywithabrain

Hi will this work on a Samsung tablet to connect with a Samsung external hard drive

Asked by: Bin123
If the HDD is compatible with tablets, there is no reason why this extension wouldn't work.

Can you recommend a mains power supply source for this please? As I am not sure what plug end they need.

Asked by: KieranS
These do not need to be mains powered, they are fed the power from the USB socket. The way they differ from normal cables is that they use 1.5 of the 2 amps from the socket to power the cable and you only get approx 500ma from the usb at the end. If you require the full 2 amps for higher power devices you can use an additional optional power supply like our code: VN10L.
