Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a Good Buy At first sight, this kit appears to be an exciting introduction into how to Program a micro controller using the popular Basic compiler: Bascom. However, the 220 page manual is "littered" with many text errors that may suddenly stop you in your tracks and leave you scratching your head. In addition, there is a lack of attention to detail on some critical matters related to setting the system up. However, perhaps worst of all is that a few of the data logging experiments require the use of software called: StampPlot that is described in the book as a , Professional Data Logger available as freeware and sad to say this appears not to be the case any longer. While the book (page 178) says that this program can be found under the Tools folder on the CD ROM, in reality it only has a text file that can redirects you site indicating that the StampPlot freeware is NO longer available. Need-less-to-say this product was a bad investment. True, you can some of the experiments given but expect to "jump through a few hoops" before you get there! Mike Mercury

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Beginnings I only developed an interest in Bascom when I stumbled across the excellent tutorial by B. Collis (www.techideas.co.nz) which extends to 1000 pages. Suddenly this Kit from Maplin became of interest as a result. I liked the well written 220 page book, including such a broad range of demo programs, and the compact ready-made prototyping board, a mere 45X80mm. Finally,when I found Bascom has a good set of mathematical functions, I consider my purchase competes with that of the Arduino

It appears that the software included with this doesn't run on Mac OS which is a bit of an issue for me as I don't use Windows. Is there a Mac version of this software that you are aware of? Thanks
