PMR 446 gives you a great alternative to mobile phones, as they have no need for licenses or call plans. This radio is simple to use and set up, with knobs and function keys to choose your channel. It also comes with eight PMR 446 channels and a further eight channels that are pre-set.
What is the range on this two way radio?
This two way radio can reach distances of up to 12km in an open space without obstructions. Range can be limited by obstructions like trees, buildings, hills, vehicles and even other people. How built up an areas is will affect the range. In an open area with obstructions such as trees and houses the unit will reach between four and six kilometres, and in heavily built up areas the range will be between one and two kilometres.
What frequencies does the radio use?
The PMR 446 uses 16 channels in the 446.00625 – 446.09375 MHz range, to give you plenty of options. With optional programming software (not included) you can scan for strong signals and a time out function that can be set to switch off from a transmission that has gone on for more than 30-270 seconds.
How long can I use this radio for?
Keep talking with a 1200mAh battery or have your PMR446 as a backup. When the battery runs low, you can just pop the radio on the desktop charger and within four or five hours the battery will fully recharge. The power saving function helps extend your battery to give you maximum battery life. The radio has a 2-pin Kenwood style socket for optional headsets, earpieces and microphones.
