What can I do with this kit?
Become part an interactive part of the circuit. Build your own sound generator, then use your hands to alter the pitch of the tone and create fun and funky noises. As you move your hand closer and further away from the board, the pitch will change. For a more pronounced difference, try touching the metal studs on the battery box or the metal of the speaker. Have fun and see what sounds you can make, and even build your own songs. This 44 part kit is great for anyone interested in electronics or looking to improve their soldering.

What can I learn from this kit?
Use resistors, capacitors, microchips and potentiometers to build the circuit and learn how they go together. Use the two potentiometers to set the pitch and volume, then use your hands to further change the pitch. You can increase the surface area by attaching kitchen foil to the pad in the corner of the copper plane. The bigger the surface area, the more pronounced the pitch changes will be. This kit comes with all the components required, including a speaker. You will require a soldering iron and solder, and may require wire cutters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from what it says on the tin... did i do something wrong when I built this? or does the description fall short of the reality with this thing? it says move your hand around near the board, but doing that has very little effect on the sound. however, start touching the contacts on the back of the board and it is a whole different story - this is where the fun really begins - it is a bit random - would be interesting to make controls for it...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Jean Michel Jarre has nothing to fear from this A nice build project if you enjoy the assembly process and don't care too much about performance. One of the resistors supplied was incorrect. The instructions indicated a 1k resistor (brown, black, red), but what was supplied was a 10k (brown, black, orange). Luckily I have numerous spares and I found a 1k resistor. Not good though. I don't know enough about electronics to say what impact the higher resistance component would have had. After assembly the project didn't seem to be working. There was a faint noise coming from the speaker but you had you have it against your ear to hear it. Oddly, removing the battery and replacing it cured the problem, but it does seem temperamental. Fun to build though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Found this through a search for a theremin. Liked the idea of a small cheap version for use with students. Thoroughly enjoyed putting it together and found that no real technical knowledge was needed (other than how to solder). However, the final product was disappointing. The variety in sounds is very limited, even with the tips provided. Not something I will be investing in using.

Is it possible to get a circuit diagram for this kit please? It's difficult to figure how it works just from the assembled kit.

Hello, I bought 2 of these about a year ago. Yesterday I thought I would wire up the 2nd which had been unassembled. My question is regarding D1.Can you explain its function?

This is a diode so would stop the capacitor discharging the wrong way.

what type of solder wire is required - what gauge? my husband bought me this as a gift and I have no idea about soldering. also, do you need a very fine solder iron & solder sucker?
