What can this kit make?
Build your own solar powered fan and harness the power of the sun. With its 100mm diameter you can take the edge off the heat and with no batteries required the solar panel can provide the power to keep it going even in relatively low light conditions. The fan is easy to assemble and doesn’t need soldering, the wires are connected with terminal blocks provided. It even comes with a screwdriver and instruction sheet.

What sort of motor does it use?
The solar fan comes with a compact 24.4mm diameter motor that is just 12.8mm long, great for mounting inside project boxes or to the side of models. The motor can reach up to 1,600 rotations per minute and up to 2.8gf.cm and runs off a 1.5-4.5V power source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great and yet very simple fan/cooling system, I bought one to keep my pet cool in the car but also to educate the kids on how solar energy works and the benefits. Good quality and simple to use!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total waste of money wires too flimsy to fit in the junction provided , when directly wired it just didn't work.

I bought one of these and the motor will not run even in bright sunlight unless I spin the motor shaft by hand. Then the motor will run but stops even though the light is still bright. I need the fan to start on it's own. Can you advise please?

Could I purchase a larger solar panel and use it in conjunction with this product to create a longer lasting fan?

Unfortunately, Maplin do not advise on product modification as this will void warranty.

LOOKING TO PURCHASE A COOLING FAN AS MY HUSBAND HAS TO SLEEP IN HIS TRUCK , WOULD THIS BE SUITABLE? WOULD THE SOLAR PANEL HAVE TO BE PLACED OUTSIDE OR CAN IT BE CHARGED IN THE WINDSCREEN? HOW LONG IS THE CABLE DOES IT HAVE A CLIP TO HOLD IT IN POSITION?

This item is not suitable for that kind of use this is just a educational kit to show how solar power works.

Hi - am looking to increase air circulation in a long polytunnel - might a couple of these help?

Asked by: Kris
Yes, they would help add to the circulation, but they are only small, you may need a lot depending on the size of the polytunnel.

Will the fan run all day in low light but warm weather if not would the panel charge a battery instead

Asked by: davew
The panel will provide power whilst ever it is exposed to sunlight, the temperature has no bearing.
