What makes this multimeter different?
This multimeter is an entry clamp meter which allows you to test for voltage and current on an electrical wire. It is possible to test for the presence of voltage without making contact on the wire – as this tester senses the magnetic field caused by the current flow. This is therefore a safer way of testing for a live wire. The auto ranging function of this multimeter means you won’t even need to set a range to test for, it will do that for you. The ‘data hold’ button allows you to continue displaying the reading even after removing the test probes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super for the price Firstly, I'm an idiot - I started by trying to clamp outside of a mains cable which of course has the current flow in both directions (hot and cold) which cancel out, and thought I'd bought a dud. Luckily one of the guys in my local Maplin store pointed it out to me and I sheepishly I made a mains loop testing rig from a short extension, and it works a treat. For anyone worried about DC accuracy, there are two types of clamp meter, and the ones that directly support DC current by Hall Effect are dearer. This model is rated/designed for AC sensing, so to expect DC accuracy to be indicative at best. The DC/hall effect ammeters start at about 10x the price of this little puppy. £9 is darn cheap, and it's a surprisingly quality feeling tool for the price considering it's so cheap (it's cheaper than even cheap multimeters and has ranges for diode test, continuity, AC and DC voltage, resistance). It includes meter probes and batteries, frankly for £9 it's a steal. Just bear in mind that it has limitations and not to be an idiot like I was initially ;-)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor accuracy While these meter is really cute and feels great in your hand the accuracy of readings are poor. Using a high spec bench PSU into a load and other meters and Scope to compare readings are down over 16%, for example reading just 10V for a 12V source. Not sure why I am asked to provide my email address for this review as I am already logged in to the Maplin website. Annoying!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheap and cheerful Small size and simplicity are good. the clamp is useful not only for quick current measurement but also fof holding it in position! Continuity buzzer useful. Almost a cheap as a set of test leads. But Like another reviewer, I find it inaccurate for low Direct voltages. Like another reviewer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from avoid i bought this to measure power of a 8watt bulb and when using the leads it measured zero amps, using the clamp on a single 240v wire it also measure nothing. simply does not work. I could measure 240 volts but even then the read out was in settled. will return when next in town. waste of money and mileage going to buy and return it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You get what you Pay For Bought this to measure current to various appliances using the clamp you get a transient reading only if you switch the meter to the current settings when clamped to cable which disappears very quickly you have to be very quick in pressing the lock button to retain the reading, The reading obtain was quite variable and really useless. This is going to be returned to the store.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clamp meter Meter readings all way out dos not even read dc volts below 4 volts ,returned to store they give me another one they checked this in store same fault don't waste money
