Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought 3 of these thermometers in 2012. There are very cheap. Quite good value for most household uses, but be careful about accuracy and reliability if you are doing anything technical, especially in the following situations: - If you submerse the probe in water regularly, eventually the contacts corrode and you get nonsense readings. - If you are measuring outside in the sun, the case gets hot because it is black. This effects the automatic temperature compensation for the thermocouple and gives incorrect readings (errors of up to about 10C!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In stock in my local store, the staff were very helpful. I bought this for the wife in the kitchen and am very surprised by the quality and accuracy, so much so it's found it's way into aquarium testing kit. It looks like I'll be buying a second for here again....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit. I've had mine for 3 months now and use it daily for measuring water temperatures from domestic taps and showers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good basic model Bought it to replace an existing unit, works fine and simple to use

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing As it uses a thermocouple, it would have been much more useful if the probe were connected by a plug, not hard wired; then I could have swapped probes for different jobs. Also I would have liked 0.1 degree precision.

Is it suitable for placing in a domestic freezer and is it calibrated

Asked by: cayenne
This is designed to take readings in real time and is not suitable to be left in a freezer for long periods of time, more just to put the probe in and see what temperature it is now. These have a basic calibration done at the point of maufacturing, but do not come with a calibration certificate.

I wish to use four of these to remotely monitor boiler pipe temperatures via CCTV. Once switched on will it remain on (and hence visible to the cameras without having to have its buttons pressed) and if so how long will the batteries last?

Asked by: denpepper
Unfortunately, this unit would not be suitable for your requirements due to the auto-power off feature which will time out the display after a few minutes.

Is this unit suitable for use as a pipe thermometer ie to measure the temp of 'out and in' pipes to a central heating radiator, given that the probe will need to be pressed AGAINST the pipe and not actually inserted as in a liquid? Will it still work?

Asked by: Dave 31
Yes but it will not be as accurate.
