Where would I use these PMR radios?
Keep in contact at theme parks, camping trips or even at work with these Motorola PMR 446 radios. These radios use the licence-free 446 MHz frequency band for communication between the two units. With up to 8km range in open conditions, these radios are powerful units. There is no need for a licence or call plan, making these two-way radios the perfect alternative to mobile phones.

With their backlit LCD displays, these radios are easy to read day or night. The units come with belt clips and loops to secure your radios. Covert earpieces (not included) can be connected for private communications – ideal for security – and the handsets are programmed for voice activation transmission (VOX) for hands free use.

What is the range on these PMR 446 handsets?
These radios have a maximum range of up to 8km under ideal conditions in open, flat countryside. They are still effective when obstacles or buildings are between the units, though the range will be reduced. With a robust and compact black design, these radios are ideal for public facing roles or to show off to your friends.

How many frequencies do these two-way radios have?
Never struggle for a clear frequency – each unit has 8 channels which have 121 privacy codes for a total of 968 privacy combinations. Don’t miss a call by accidentally changing the channel with the key lock. The handsets have 10 call tones to contact others at a push of a button. The radios also come with roger bleeps so you know when a communication is over and a vibrate alert for more discreet communication. Simply scan and monitor to find the channel for you.

How do I charge my radios?
Keep in touch for up to 16 hours of a full charge. The display includes a power indicator to let you know exactly how much battery you’ve got left. When you need to recharge, simply place the handsets in the mains powered dual charging dock. If you can’t wait for the units to charge then you can replace the supplied battery packs with four AA batteries batteries per unit.

This product is supplied in blister packaging.

Can these be used underground?

Asked by: pompey tiger
The range of PMR446, just like any VHF or UHF radio, is dependent on many factors like environment (in-city range is far less than in an open field), height above surrounding obstructions, and, to a lesser extent, weather conditions. The antenna type and location, transmit power and receive sensitivity also affect range. However with PMR446 most of these variables are fixed at manufacturing to comply with the PMR446 specifications. Most of the time the maximum range that a user in a city can expect is a few hundred metres or less. Range may be many kilometres, for example between hilltops, or only a few hundred metres, if for example a hill or large metal object is in the transmission path between radios.
