Where would I use these PMRs radios?
Organise yourself at a festival or keep in touch while exploring the Lake District with these twin rugged PMR 446 radios. The handsets are IPX4 rated (splash resistant). These PMR 446 radios use the licence-free 446 MHz frequency band for communication between the two units. With up to 10km range in open conditions, these radios are powerful as well as durable. With no need for a licence or call plan, they are a great alternative to mobile phones.

As well as using for extreme sports and exploration, these radios can be used as remote monitors. Their backlit displays allow you to easily use these radios day or night. The units come with belt clips and loops to secure your radios. They also come with a covert earpiece per unit for private communications – ideal for security – and voice activation (VOX) for hands-free use.

What is the range on these PMR 446 handsets?
These two-way radios can reach up to 10km under ideal conditions. They are still effective in built up areas or with obstacles between handsets, though the maximum range will be reduced. With their rugged design and useful accessories, these radios are great for outdoor and indoor use. Simply scan and monitor to find the channel for you.

How many frequencies do these two-way radio have?
Never struggle for a clear frequency – each unit has 8 channels which have 121 privacy codes for a total of 968 privacy combinations. Don’t miss a call by accidentally changing the channel with the key lock. The handsets have 10 call tones to contact others at a push of a button. They also come with roger bleeps and more discreet vibrate alerts, so you know when a communication is over.

How do I charge my radios?
Keep in touch for up to 16 hours on a full charge. The display includes a power indicator to let you know exactly how much battery you’ve got left. When you need to recharge, simply place the handsets in the mains powered dual charging docks as the batteries charge in the radio. If you can’t wait for the units to charge then you can replace the supplied battery packs with four AA batteries per unit. The handsets come in a hard plastic carry case to protect them between use.

Could you confirm these are not press button to talk radios? If the correct plug was used could a headset with 400 ohm headphones (in mono) and a 200 ohm mic be used with these? If so what is the correct plug for a headset?

Asked by: Meow Sound
As with any 2 way radio you normally have to press and hold the transmit button whilst talking. You can use the device in VOX mode where the transmit is voice activated. I cannot say if the headset you have will work but this one certainly will http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/earpiece-with-lapel-microphone-motorola-rg94c however it still has a PTT (push to talk) button which has to be pressed if you wish to talk to other radios.
