Rated 4 out of 5 by from Changing the batteries trashed the camera!! Bought this kit from Maplins about 6 months ago and it has worked perfectly until the camera batteries required changing. After putting the new batteries in, the camera refused to sync again and has eventually been returned (to Netgear under RMA) for replacement. While trying to get it working again I came across many other similar instances on the Netgear forum and realised that it's not unusual for this to happen. If you can possibly hardwire a camera then my view is that that is the way to go. When it's working then it does the job well but it's a system that is expensive and not as reliable as it should be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply The Best! Don't waste your time buying any of the other wifi camera's as i have been there and done it and returned them all. They all had issues of bad connections and useless buggy apps. The Arlo was simple to set up and has worked without fault since doing so. The app is plain and easy to navigate and has schedules for you to set, enabling you to set your own notifications at night when you are asleep. Connection to the live camera over my phones 4G/3G has worked all the time and i have even set it all up to my TP-Link Archer 4G router without issue. All i can say is pay the extra money and you not be sorry. It is a very reliable system and i fully recommend the Arlo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Little Short of the Mark I initially had a couple of issues pairing this, but found it is v.important to follow the set-up instructions, once this is done it is very easy to complete the installation and finalise the pairing. My only gripe is the mounting bracket, which is a slide on screw job. Why Netgear see fit not to provide a more secure mounting bracket with two mounting screw holes is not understood. Mounting brackets of the type provided are prone to movement in poor weather conditions. When changing batteries it is important to dismount the camera and pair it near the hub as per initial set-up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good when finally running! Bought the kit and one add on camera. Delivered quickly and packed well, initial installation easy but couldn't get full functionality. Spent ages on Netgear tel helpline, eventually learned that they'd had previous compatibility problems with BT Homehub 3, which of course I had! They said upgrade the router or return the Arlo for a full refund. I was a bit p....d they didn't advertise the problem, but I've now paid for upgrade to BT Homehub 5 and it's working fine now. I spoke with BT tech about opening Ports 80 and 443, but the bottom line seems to be that Homehub 3 just isn't compatible, bit old now I guess. Maplin tech guy didn't know what to do, wasn't familiar with problem, but confirmed OK for full refund if required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the system we needed! Just the CCTV system I had been waiting for i.e totally wireless with no worries about power supply. Incredibly easy to setup with very clear instructions. Mounting it on the wall was a breeze too due to ingenious detachable magnetic join of camera to permanently fixed base. Great video quality and cute phone app to review "intruders" caught by a reliable motion detector. Recommended!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive rubbish - limited detection and no mount Great features - on a paper. In reality - it works well as live view monitor (though sometimes takes long to connect). What Netgear conveniently forget to mention is that it has ZERO sensitivity to motion towards/from or up/down the camera. It only detects (occasionally) traffic across (left to right or vice versa). With this design in mind, it proved almost impossible to mount it on a typical 2-storey house to monitor the area in front or in the rear, as small angles and changing sensitivity do not matter, it really needs to be pointed almost parallel to the house wall. Not sure what they mean by the night vision - images taken in the dark are absolutely unrecognisable, it may detect motion in the dark but you will not know what caused it. To avoid doubts - it is installed as recommended: above 2.1m high and slightly pointed downwards, even though it comes without any pan and tilt mount and you have to improvise. Not worth the money and not reliable as a security camera.

This will not work without wifi. A wireless kit that would work without wifi would be something such as the link below

How many cameras can this system support? Are the batteries readily available?

Asked by: Two brits abroad
The amount of cameras ONE base can handle is based on your account level... basic(free) is 5, next is 10 and highest is 15. ( all bases are the same ) But also be aware that one base can only stream/record a max of 5 cams at the same time although this usually isn't a problem. CR123 batteries are readily available

Is it required static IP?

Asked by: Tony
For you to access your cameras from a remote location, you will have to setup your Arlo system and make sure your base station is connected to the internet. The Arlo cameras do not require an IP address to work but your Arlo base station does. The Arlo base station is configured to DHCP. This means once you hook your base station up to your router, the router should automatically assign an IP address to the base station. From here, you would simply sync the camera(s) to the base station by pressing the sync button on the side of the base station, and then on the top of the camera. Once you see the flashing blue lights on the camera blink rapidly, this means the sync process is complete and your cameras are ready to view. From here you would simply log into your Arlo account and view your cameras.
