About this product

Product overview

• Create a high-speed WiFi N access point via the 500 Mbps Powerline technology
• Extend WiFi coverage across walls and floors for Internet access
• Ideal for connecting tablets, smartphones and laptops to Internet

The Powerline 500 WiFi Access Point creates a high-speed WiFi N access point at any power outlet in your home. It extends WiFi coverage across walls and floors to connect tablets, smartphones and laptops to the Internet, for the most demanding applications. And it’s easy to get started with automatic push button wireless setup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Brian's review is correct is so far as it goes. However, he makes no mention of setting up security on the wifi on the 5001 unit (ie the remote end), something you will want to do to protect your network. To do this Netgear suggests you use their setup utility, but this is frustratingly slow each time it scans the network, and rescans often appear to show no devices connected - aaargh! Two or three times it failed to make wifi changes (eg to rename the SSID). Far better to log on to the device directly using your browser - if need be look up the device's ip address on your router's DHCP allocation table where it should appear as XWN5001. Once set up it seems fine: my network is now extended down the end of a 50m extension to our summer house at the bottom of the garden. 5 *s for the technology, but only 3 *s for the setup utility = 4 *s

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This item was as straight forward out of the box just plug in to the router and plug in another room switch on set the security button on the side and Bingo thats it.So easy................It works well improved the connection to the bedroom. The staff were first rate very helpful and polite nothing was to much trouble a pleasure to shop there. I would have no problem recommending this store(Bolton) to other family and friends.

This only comes with one extender plug - can i get more extender plugs to work off the same base unit?

Asked by: angus
You can add additional plugs to pair into your existing kit, including full kits of two plugs. Unfortunately at this time we do not have any single extenders which would be available for this brand though.
