How does this range extender benefit my Wi-Fi network?
The NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 Range Extender increases the distance of an existing Wi-Fi network, allowing wireless enabled devices to connect at greater distances. Overall Wi-Fi signal strength is also improved by the range extender, as the extra coverage helps to remove weak signal areas around the home or office. Built-in MU-MIMO technologies allow you to transfer information faster by allowing you to simultaneously transmit and receive data to multiple devices.

What can I expect from the wireless signal from the Nighthawk X4?
The Nighthawk X4 Wi-Fi Range Extender uses a dual band wireless frequency to allow devices to communicate with your wireless router. This signal is made up of 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, providing a total of 2,200Mbps of wireless bandwidth.

This is more than enough for devices such as desktop computers, smart televisions, set top boxes and game consoles with wireless features to enjoy a steady, strong connection to your network. Personal devices such as mobile smartphones and tablets are able to connect to the NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 with ease. This allows you to browse the web from anywhere in your home or office, and allows you to utilise your network features without using the valuable data allowances provided by your mobile network. Auto lane technology selects the fastest Wi-Fi band for your devices, which is great for streaming HD media or playing wireless video games.

What can the gigabit Ethernet be used for?
The NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 can be attached to a router using a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, which allows the extender to be used as an access point. This is great for networks that do not feature wireless capabilities.

Can I monitor my Wi-Fi usage using the EX6150?
The NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 allows you to monitor the Wi-Fi usage and current speed of connected devices using the NETGEAR Wi-Fi analytics tools available for Android devices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth buying I bought this when I updated my broadband. It's very simple to set up and does a great job of boosting to Wifi signal with very little drop in speed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well in Access Point mode. Used in Access Point mode on the end of a wired network to improve wi-fi downstairs. It replaces an Ethernet over mains powerline thing. Initially the 2.4 GHz channel didn't work properly but this was rectified with a software update. Would have been 5 stars otherwise. Now works a treat.

Will this work in my games room at back of garden ??

Asked by: Dave
Sorry but it would be impossible to predict knowing nothing of you home layout your other equipment and the distance of the "games room" from the router. As this is a signal booster you would need to be able to receive a signal at the location of choice in order to boost and re-transmit it.

once set up will your device automatically jump from the booster to a normal router when close as you walk in from one room to another

Asked by: luke202
I'm afraid that will depend on the device you are using and would suggest speaking with the manufacturer of said device.

Does this give a '2nd wifi' (i.e. the first from the router and another from the extender) ? If so can it be configured so you just have one (clone the BT router)? And finally, can I use more than one? we have a rambling house with thick cob walls....?

Asked by: Neil
Yes to all 3 questions. The provided user guide does outline these features. page 23 specifically deals with SSID configuration of the network being broadcast.

Hi - my wifi signal comes from an Apple Time Machine, which does not have a WPS button. I had to give up on previous devolo wifi extenders, because in practice they can only be set up by use of the WPS buttons. Can this be set up without WPS buttons?

Asked by: jwripple
Full instructions for the unit are provided on the listing (see link) This includes details of to configure the units on page 10 which gives examples of both WPS and Web based configuration.
