What is the Netgear Orbi?
The Netgear Orbi is a combination router and separate WiFi Orbi satellite that will help expand your home wireless signal to eliminate areas of low or no signal. Multiple Orbi satellites can be connected to the Orbi router and expand your wireless signal up to a further 2,000 square feet for each satellite connected. This means you can easily cover your home with a high strength WiFi connection that is accessible to multiple users

What wireless speed can I expect from the Netgear Orbi?
The Netgear Orbi router and satellite uses three wireless bands which work in tandem to create a high speed wireless network. Broken down, each band operates at speeds of 1,733Mbps + 866Mbps + 400Mbps. This gives each of the connected devices the option to operate on a separate 2.4GHz or 5GHz band from other devices, this keeps your WiFi speed fast when someone is streaming 4K media or playing online games. This also keeps your wireless network providing its best WiFi speeds when multiple users are connected.

What can I connect to the Netgear Orbi?
Further to the wireless features of the Netgear Orbi, the router is home to three Gigabit Ethernet ports which allow you to connect devices such as smart televisions, games consoles and personal computers. Four more Ethernet ports are also located on the Netgear Orbi satellite, which lets you connect wired devices to your network at a distance from your router – without the need for long network cables.

A USB port is featured for you to connect devices such as USB printers, mass storage devices and digital cameras, which can be accessed across your network.

Is the Netgear Orbi easy to setup?
The Netgear Orbi has a simple setup process which works straight from the box, and can be achieved in minutes with the Netgear setup app from your phone. The Netgear Orbi uses a single WiFi name (SSID) for both the router and the satellite, meaning that you can access your Wi-Fi network without having to swap access points. Pairing the Netgear Orbi satellite to the router is easy, as the satellite uses a one button pairing process to expand your wireless network quickly, without fuss.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Home WiFi - a little expensive though I bought this device a few weeks back having read about this and a few others. I needed a wifi that would cover my house with out any gaps. This device does just that and the speed throughput is full. So now I can get my actual speed of my Internet through my wifi. Negative points are the size of the wifi units are quite big, alot bigger than I was expecting but nevertheless I have managed to blend in. The price is the other I feel that for this price I would expected much more features then it has. Would certianly recommend if you want good wifi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Netgear Orbi, In my view and for my requirements, Probably the best mesh system I bought this yesterday. (Peterborough Store, thanks Stuart) I have BT infinity 1 FTTC with about 28 Mbps on internet speed, with the BT Smarthub. I was looking for a more robust wifi system with better coverage. The orbi is a router and mesh Wifi system. I was told it works with all ISP supplied hubs in the UK. Set up, followed the instructions, connected Orbi router to BT Smarthub and turned it on. Logged into Orbi via wifi as instructed, from a pc. The Orbi recognised the Smarthub as a gateway for internet access and set things up accordingly. I then positioned and turned on the satellite and that connected, went through changing admin password and wifi SSID (to same as BT Smarthub so I didnt need to change all the devices in the house) and turned Wifi off on the BT Smarthub. I disconnected Samsung smartthings hub and Philips Hue hub from BT smarthub and connected these direct to the Orbi router. Had to forget the netork wifi on a few devices and reconnect. All went smoothly and everything works well. I also have Samsung wireless speakers (R1), these also connected without any problems. (these were often trouble on the BT wifi for some reason and would take several attempts to connect, but not with the Orbi.) The Orbi is a tri band system with a dedicated 1.7Gbps 5Ghz wifi channel for internet connection to the satellites leaving the other 2 channels for device connections. It has only been a day but all is working as it should. Wifi accross the bungalow (1500 sq ft and solid walls) is delivering full internet speed throughout. The network seems far more responsive with less latency than before. OK so thats the good news, now the not so good. The Orbi router and satellite are quite big (I don't care) the power adaptor is quite large (I don't care) the price is high (I don't care) the finish on the units mark quite easily if you have dirty hands (I don't care). You cannot seperate the 2.4 and 5 Ghz wireless, would be nice to have the option but not a deal breaker. If you think I like the Orbi your wrong, I LOVE it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good - when it works!! The Orbi is good when it works (5*)! At the start Wi-Fi drops several times a day. Now since the last firmware it's several times an hour!! (1*) The wired internet keeps working so it's something to do with the Orbi wifi. I would wait until Netgear get this sorted (or buy something else)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All my wifi problems gone An outstanding product that is not cheap but worth every penny. Extremely easy to setup and if required more advanced features are available to the more experienced user. Built to the usual high Netgear hardware and software quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Speeds! Easy to set up - I now only have 1 wifi throughout the very complex layout of my house, I get 75MB down and 20up to my wired PC, from both the main Orbi and the satellite I get 70 and 15 from my MOBILE device via wifi - simply stunning. I don't notice the Orbi now, but by heck if it were ever to go I'd realise what I was missing.........

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent - Fixed my wifi issues I live in a 3 floor house and had tried powerlines and wifi extenders but never got close to max speed in the loft (2Mbs) now with Orbi I get 50 (Max speed at the router). Well worth the money if you need fast reliable Wi-fi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I've been struggling with patchy wifi reception around the house, despite range extenders. I was going to buy the BT Whole Home system but, having discussed the issue with the team at Maplin, I opted for the Netgear Orbi - great choice, so easy to install and the house is now alive with WiFi!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor technical support. I encountered a problem with this product and so I sent a query to the Netgear technical support department. I received no reply. Fortunately, I was able to solve the problem without any help. The product works well and I would have given it five stars, but for the poor technical support.

I'm seeing and hearing differing views on the connection. Does the Orbi system actually replace your existing router (as some answers have said), or does it work alongside it, connected via the ethernet cable (as some other answers have said)? Thanks

Asked by: TrevReav
It can do either however it would work best when replacing your router.

My home is cat-cable wired.  Can I connect one unit via Ethernet?  (I'm hoping this will work, because my building is concrete, and no extender can penetrate to my basement.)

Asked by: Jonathan71
These are meant to be connected wirelessly to each other.

How are the orbi ac 3000 station interconnected. If they use the power lines, does it still work properly when the connection is via the fuse box e.g. approximately 50 meter cable ?

Can I change this for my sky hub and will it solve the issue of dead spots in a house with thick stone walls. I have bought a TP-Link from you but this has not solved the issue.

Asked by: Norma
It is possible that this could work, however we would be unable to guarantee as environmental factors can vary as to the cause of dead spots. This does have the advantage of including a satellite unit to boost the WiFi range so would likely fare better than a router alone.
