Why should I buy this dash cam?
The NextBase 512G gives a 1080p HD recording of any event on the road, helping you reduce your insurance quotes and for proof when making a claim after an accident. With sufficient lighting you can even capture events at night. The built-in G-sensor will allow the dash cam to record any impacts or sudden course changes so that the footage of any accidents is protected on the memory card, even if the vehicle is parked. The built-in GPS allows for the vehicle’s exact position and route to be recorded. A date and time stamp is also included in the recording to prevent any dispute. Encouraging road safety, the built-in screen blacks out during recording to prevent the driver from becoming distracted. The built-in Sony Exmor sensor will give you an improved image with vivid colours while being protected by the anti-glare polarising filter to minimise windscreen reflections on your recordings.

How do I use this dash cam?
The dash cam records directly onto a class 10 microSD card, up to 32GB, which is installed into the slot on the unit (memory card not supplied) to record up to four and a half hours of footage. When the memory card becomes full, an auto loop function will allow the dash cam to begin recording over the existing video files in chronological order. Once the memory card is installed, the dash cam can be suction mounted directly onto the windscreen and is powered with a built-in battery or in-car power supply. Once the engine is running, the camera will automatically start recording so that any event is captured and recorded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought in-store from the Blackpool store and received helpful, friendly assistance from the manager, Jake. The camera was easy to fit (no more than 10mins hiding cables).and adjusting the polarising filter to eliminate reflections took seconds. This filter is really effective and you can visibly see how the images are clearer - just like using a pair of sunglasses!. Recorded video colours are spot-on and there is lots of detail in shadows, due perhaps to the new sensor. Night time images are good too. So far, very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Video quality ! 140 degree angle is perfect for my works van. The suction mount clip is easier to deal with than the 202 lite. The recording quality is excellent... can read number plates from oncoming vehicles. The video player (on the disc) is great as it displays the gps map, although it does take time to load a video, I find the VLC player to be more convenient if not needing the gps data. Definitely recommend for the professional driver, or those that want brilliant video quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantasic camera i bought this camera a wile ago and have already had to use it for evidence from a smash at the other side of the road. some insurers offer a discount if you have a next base dash cam.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than previous model ? I bought this for my second car having already bought the Nextbase predecessor 402G model. The upgrades include a polarising filter and the buttons are perhaps easier to identify because they are colour coded. However , the Driver Record software has also been revised and this seems to be just tinkering because it does as exactly the same as the 402G software but will only work with the 512G so I had to download both programmes and remember to select the right one to review playback on a PC. I also found the polarising filter unnecessary. The camera failed anyway after only a couple of days - continually crashing on playback - so I took it back and exchanged it for another 402g (£30 cheaper) . With both cameras it is frustrating that the menus are password protected which is a pain each time you want to access them. The on-off switch is a rocker switch which also acts as the menu selection button and this is an odd place on top of the unit which makes it fiddly to operate , impossibly so if the camera is positioned in the best place behind the rear view mirror. I gave the 402G 4 stars but because the "upgraded" 512G is at best no better and £30 dearer I can only award it 3stars. In its favour the image quality is excellent especially in daylight recording

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up and very clear video Arrived on time, well packaged. Took minutes to set up and recording quality is very good. The long cable helps to discretely connect the dash cam to the 12V socket. The connector to the windscreen has also been secure.

is there a cam that can record any collision on my car after dark?

Asked by: lol123
On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

Is the date/time recorded taken from the GPS or from the manually entered date/time, as on the 402G?

Asked by: Timbo
The manual states that the time is taken from the GPS signal. NextBase have updated the software of the 402G so that too takes its time from the GPS (I always thought it was crazy that it didn't before).
