What makes these noise cancelling headphones excellent for audio in loud environments?

The noise cancelling feature of these headphones blocks up to 70% of noise from your surroundings, ensuring you can enjoy music in peace without unwanted distractions.

This feature works by using externally placed microphones on the headphones to take a sample of the ambient noise around you, and then uses advanced algorithms to generate a sound wave of the same amplitude but anti-phase to the original. This new signal is fed into the headphones, and when combined with the noise around you they cancel each other out - resulting in silence. An incredibly clever design that is extremely useful in noisy environments.

The over-ear design of the earpieces makes them extremely comfortable, and even during long listening sessions you won't experience ear fatigue or discomfort.

The headband has a folding mechanism, cleverly allowing the headphones to fold up into a fraction of their former size. A very convenient feature that allows for easy storage and makes these headphones great for travelling too.

Accessories included are a carrying pouch and an aeroplane adapter, enabling you to use them in-flight.

What about connectivity?

Thanks to the standard 3.5mm jack connection, these headphones can connect to a wide variety of everyday devices. Whether you want to listen to your smartphone, MP3 player, tablet, or computer, these headphones are more than capable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought these for travelling, by air certainly, might use them for train etc. I know that noise cancelling (NC) reduces low-frequency drone, not all sounds, and didn't expect more. On a flight it was very effective, muffled roar significantly; sometimes didn't notice stewardess talking to me with music on. Part of the time played music - didn't expect, or get, audiophile quality, these aren't phones for general use. Other times I switched them on without connecting to music player; much quieter than without phones. Actual semi-formal testing: I played pink noise from a Web site through a computer's speakers. Putting the phones on, switched off and not connected to audio, muffled the sound quite a bit of course (as earmuffs). Switching the NC on made a very noticeable difference. I compared them with cheap NC in-ear phones (no audio input); with pink noise I could just about tell that they were on. I also tested with blocking a radio program, applause, speech, and music, with no input to the phones. The Maplin phones had a significant earmuff effect, and switching them on made a very noticeable additional difference. I would literally have thought the in-ears weren't even working if I hadn't tested them on pink noise. Probably not comparable to some very expensive ones I haven't tried, but excellent, particularly for the price. Not for general music listening, or totally blocking out external sound of all frequencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good product, folds up relatively small and into a decent carry pouch, comes complete with flight plug adapter, and for the price it has a good sound quality, i would recommend for travel....also comfortable to wear :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I got a set of these as a present last year, and I'm thinking about buying a set as a gift for my other half this year. I'm not a big audiophile so I can't speak to the finer points of their performance, but for the price they are fine. I have better sounding headphones but they are much heavier, so I don't take them with me on planes and trains. These Maplin headphones are very lightweight and comfortable, easy to adjust, and fold up into the included pouch for travel. They do have the unfortunate problem of interference from mobile phones but so did my old noise-cancelling headphones. It's just the nature of the beast. The best thing about these is that the battery compartment and switch for the noise cancelling feature is on the headphones themselves, rather than on an in-line switch. My old set was like this, and the heavy battery compartment plus switch dangled awkwardly halfway down the cord, dragging the headphones down on one side. It was too short to stuff into my pocket and was a constant nuisance, so in this respect the Maplin headphones are miles ahead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Firstly, I should say for the price these are good value for money. They suffer badly from mobile phone interference when the noise cancelling is on and are not the most atractive headphones. So as long as you can put up with the occasional dut-dutty-dut interference sound, they cutout background rumble, make what you are listening too more intellegable and foldup to a reasonable size, so for twenty quid I'm happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great headphones, amazing on trains and planes cancel out all external noise. Best set I've come across yet and great value for money

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I found the acoustic performance of these headphones disappointing. Bass is very good, mid-range is good, but treble is terrible. ( Strangely, with lots of headphones it's often the other way round ). Mp3 music was certainly not crisp, it even seemed that all frequencies were "mushed" together a bit. Not a patch on my ?ъ15 P******* travel headphones. I found the "noise cancelling" very disappointing. For a start there is a very noticeable hiss when you turn the NC on where no hiss was there before. I agree with a previous reviewer, when you turn it on there seems to be a boost in the bass, and only a very minor noise reduction, and then only at a fairly narrow lower frequency. I know that they are only cheap[. You really do get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product - great value- reduces aircraft cabin noise and other general ambient noise - so makes the actual "signal" sound louder and clearer.
