About this product

Product overview

• 720p resolution for a HD quality recording of any event on the road
• 120 degree viewing angle to give you a wide angled view of the road ahead
• 2.7 inch built-in screen to allow you to watch live and to playback any recording
• A built-in G-sensor to record sudden course changes or impacts and save any event onto the memory card
• Night time events can be recorded if there is sufficient artificial light present from car and street lighting
• Built-in battery to allow recording to continue for several minutes after the engine cuts out
• This dash cam can record onto class 10 micro SD cards up to 32GB in size (not included)
• 25 frames per second recording rate

Why should I buy this dash cam?
This dash cam gives a 720p HD quality recording, even at night to record any events that might take place which could help reduce an insurance quote or when making a claim. You can watch a recording back on the 2.7 inch built-in screen to review any events that have happened. The built in G-sensor will allow the dash cam to record any impacts or sudden course changes so that the event is protected on the memory card. A date and time stamp is also included in the recording to prevent any dispute.

How do I use this dash cam?
The dash cam uses a class 10 micro SD card, between 2GB and 32GB, to record any event (memory card not included). When the memory card becomes full, an auto loop function will allow the dash cam to begin recording over existing video files in chronological order. Once the memory card is installed, the dash cam can be suction mounted directly onto the windscreen and is powered with a built-in Li-ion battery or the in-car power supply. The dash cam will now automatically turn on and start recording when the engine is started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this Car camera 6 days ago, I have had to read the instructions several times to realise that if I use the power master switch to switch off, it will mean that the time and date will need to be reset. If I use the other on/off switch (opposite side) the unit will retain the time and date. Although it is said to be HD720P, I have been able to use it with HD1080P and I am extremely happy with the results. I tested the unit with a 2.5 hour drive (on 1080P) and it had used less than half of the 32GB card. I will recommend this to anyone who needs a dashboard cam at a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Graham Bought this unit the other day but couldn't set the time on it. The instructions were very hard to read being in small print and not very clear. After trying for around an hour to set the time I found that to save it you must press the menue button and not the enter ( --> ) or power buttons. This done the time and date displayed correctly. The unit performed very well in low light so looking forward to using it in daylight. The loop record function means that unless you want to record the whole journey you can use a smaller sd card which starts afresh every cycle, I,ve set mine to 5 minutes. All in all a great piece of kit at a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As a driving instructor this is both a necessity in case of accident and useful for play back to pupils. I would highly recommend a 32Gb memory card though. If you are discouraged by reviews saying it doesnt save date and time, then dont be, just dont turn the unit off with the switch on the right, use the power button on the left and you will not have a problem. Also those that say it turns off after xx minutes, that is just the screen timer and it is still recording. I would also suggest that the review mentioning power loss has a problem with his power socket, not the camera. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Received as a Xmas gift and has been in use in my truck for 8 hours a day, 4 days a week for the past month. The instructions are poorly translated into English (as the cam is Chinese, as are most things sold by Maplin), but can be understood quite easily using a little common sense. No micro SD card is included so this has to be purchased separately pushing the cost up. A 32GB card is good for about 5 hours HD recording. There are three time settings when recording, continuous (which records in 11 min blocks) and 3 & 5 min loop. Recording quality is excellent, good is sound too. Very easy to set up and to view and delete recordings. Built in screen is clear to view, but so much better when played through a PC. Very happy with the cam and a must have for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Friday purchased the journey recorder N01CD but took it back Saturday as after 2 min it turned it-self off, they gave us new one just in case it was faulty but that did the same thing so Sunday back we went to the Bevois Valley branch in Southampton and one of the two men that was working went through all the instructions and then came up with the screen shuts off after 2 min as a screen saver but it was still recording. There was nothing in the instructions to say it did this so we thought it was a fault, now that has been explained to us tried it out again not worried that screen went off and yes it still recorded and am very pleased with the item and the ease of how it set up which I had done correctly first time round. Yours Faithfully Diana

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best ideas to come along from Maplin - and indispensible, especially if you live in built-up areas where the possibility of accidents is higher. This device is easy to install and small enough that it won't interfere with visibility through the screen. The picture quality is excellent and can be easily connected to most modern TVs for easy viewing. And last but not least - it looks super!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I used to have a Roadhawk (nearly ?ъ300) which was brilliant; took it out of the box, stuck it to the windscreen, plugged it in and away it went. Then it was stolen while the car was being serviced. So I bought one of these. The instructions are in poor English which put me off to start with. Then I discovered that there is no SD card in the box so that is an extra. Then that it has to be charged in the car for three hours before you start- no journey I ever take is three hours long. Then you have to follow a series of instructions very carefully to set date and time, format your card in the camera (and the card wouldn't format) etc etc... I got fed up and took it back. I'm going to pay the full whack and go back to Roadhawk..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 720 car camera. I brought this camera being aged 72, and don't see why I should have to wait for me to prove a accident isn't my fault, Plus your more aware of your own driving. I have managed to see some real bad driving with it, mobiles phones being used, a teenager trying to spit into my open window, A lorry driver coming from M11 into path way of A14 ,deciding to enter my lane and push me over into the crash barrier,if I hadn't dropped back from being half way along side his trailer guess I wouldn't be here. I downloaded the car cam into my PC and informed the lorry firm, who wanted the video, end results ,driver being called in for investigated,They apologise for any stress and upset caused, Now I don't drive without it.

Model A59RX. Had for some time. Recorded ok at first but now stops after about 8 seconds. Pressing the LH power button starts a red/white progress bar on screen which carries on until master power is disconnected. No mention of this in manual. Ideas?

Every so often, about every two days, it just switchs off and says " goodbye." If I don't notice and switch it back on, it doesn't record.therefore not very good if I have an accident.  How can I stop this happening ?

I just received this Dash cam. The screen goes black as if it is off after a couple of minutes although the led light is still on. Is the cam still recording while the screen looks like it is off but is actually still on?

Asked by: Steve
Yes this is a time out feature as it would be illegal to drive round with a live screen on.
