The new Orchid PBX416 is perfect for a small or medium sized business, looking for a telephone system (PBX) with all the features they want, without having to pay a premium for unwanted feature sets and expensive installation or even those looking for a low cost way of future proofing their telecoms installation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, just two points to bear in mind... Bought this for home use as solid walls and concrete floors make shouting from room to room difficult. Very happy with purchase, it has far more features than I will ever need, and feel it is good value for money. Just a couple of points - Caller display works on incoming and room to room calls, but internally it's not the system that's used by BT and not all phones are compatible with it. So check carefully before buying lots of phones - e.g. a Decor 2200 will not show caller display, but a Decor 2200 v2 works perfectly. The stated capacity is 16 extensions. However there is an upper limit of 8 extensions which can be programmed to ring when receiving an outside call. Not a major problem as calls can be answered by any extension whether it's ringing or not, but non-ringing extensions won't show the number in caller display. If these points are acceptable, it's an excellent system, easy to set up and so far has been completely trouble free.

How many wires are needed from the exchange to each telephone? (i.e. number of wires in cable) Are special telephones needed or does this unit work with normal "everyday" telephones? Many thanks //

Asked by: Brian
2 wires for each extension. You must use master sockets for each extension, and the wires are connect to 2 and 5 in the master socket. You can then use any normal domestic phone on the extension, as long as it supports tone dial and earth loop recall (most do).
