About this product

Overview

Product overview

• For connecting a parallel printer through a USB port • 'Plug 'n' play' for easy installation • Bi-directional for optimum communication between printer and computer• 1.8m length

Many new computers, especially laptops, are being manufactured without parallel connections on them. This means older parallel devices such as printers and scanners that commonly used this connection cannot be used. This simple adapter overcomes this problem by connecting your parallel device into any USB port, saving the need to buy new equipment. Requires Windows® 98SE or above. Also compatible with Mac OS X or above.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and straightforward. There were 2 different types in my store, I bought the blue box rather than the yellow one, just in case it makes a difference. On plugging the cable into my Windows 7 (64 bit) PC, new hardware was found and this was indentified as an IEEE-1284 controller. I then added a new printer using the printer wizard and selected USB001 as the port to use. A large number of printers were displayed, and as mine was not on the list, Windows Update fetched an even longer one, which included the correct model. Printing the test page and completed installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I inherited a disused HP laser printer with Centronics connection, and required a USB connection to use with my netbook. Inexpensive, and when used to connect printer to netbook printer driver downloaded easily. Very satisfied!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work for me :-( I tried to use this to connect a Windows 10 Creators Update PC to a Samsung ML-2570 which had a blown usb port. I'd proven the Centronics port was still ok by means of an old Linux PC. Windows installed and IEEE-1284 controller ok and could see the Samsung but test prints failed to work. Jobs queued and paper was spewed out with gibbership so something not right. I also tried it from a Vitualised XP instance with a different Samsung driver. Again it could seen the printer and submit a job but wouldn't print. Frustrating to get so close.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says on the tin! Bought this to keep my old HP LaserJet 4L printer on the go and it seems to work just fine. My old XP laptop recognised the even older printer and even had the driver for it - magic!

How many pins does this accept? I've just placed an order but taking a closer look at the picture it might be my 25 pin cable might not fit. If it isn't a fit can I cancel my order?

Asked by: Helenj
This would be a 25 pin standard parallel connector.

Asked by: Dave
NO: The Parallel printer connection (sometimes referred to as a CENTRONICS interface) utilises an industry standard 36 pin connector. here is a link to an image of the connector https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1284#/media/File:IEEE_1284_36pin_plughead.jpg
