Rated 5 out of 5 by from Actually 292e I went to my local maplins to pick one of these up. The intention is to use it as a tuner for my tvheadend/xbmc setup. I went with this device as another reviewer he noted it works out of the box on linux. This may be the case for 290e, but as it was the 292e that i actually got sold, it did not work out of the box. A bit of googling does show one of the kernel devs is writing drivers, and expects them to in the kernel as of 3.16. He has provided the drivers as-is via linuxtv git. After several hours of compiling the kernel etc, i DID get it work and can say this works fantastically! There are 2 tuners, which means 2 of my users an watch different channels, or 1 can watch while another channel is being recorded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for use with tvheadend This is, to the best of my knowledge, the only USB DVB-T2 device with decent out-of-the-box support in the Linux kernel. I can confirm it works with Ubuntu and tvheadend without the need to install any additional software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for turning a NAS into a PVR I use my DVB-T2 290e in a Synology NAS using DVBLink as the TV Server. It works well creating recorded material which I can stream or copy as desired. I can also watch live TV on a PC, Mac or Android device using a DVBLink App. I was so happy with this arrangement that I bought a second one and now I can record or watch two channels simultaneously.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The tuner stick seems ok but the software lets it down UK TV stations seem to put more good programs on around xmas than you can possibly watch, so bought this in an attempt to be able to catch up a later date, but with mixed success. The unit works but the software that comes with it is a little bit disappointing. First it seems to insist on having to register to access certain features. Why? Second, the program guide doesn't seem to work properly especially for HD channels where nothing seemed to show up. I had to find the times some other way and enter them manually which was tedious. Third, it didn't seem to stop the computer going to sleep while waiting for a program to come on and so sometimes missed some recordings. However, of the programs which did record, the results seem quite good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Works practically straight out of the box. Don't use the software provided for watching TV. If you have Windows 7 or below use Windows Media Centre so you can schedule recordings. Windows 8 users need the Pro version to get Media Centre. Had a broken lead in my box and couldn't source another one - even Maplin didn't sell them at the time. Contacted PCTV and they sent a new one free of charge!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Setup is not very logical and it is not clear when HDTV channels are being received ? also EPG channel numbering seems to be random. Actual picture quality is quite good though so it does what it says.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Windows10 Native (New win10 install, not 7/8/8.1 update) I have another dual channel DTV Dongle that works great with my win10 updated laptop, unfortunately it will not work with my new build Media PC. I asked Richard at maplin on-line for advice. I then popped down to my local maplin's to buy one. Within an hour of getting home and setting up, I had it running;- as they say in a famous advert...."it does exactly what it says on the tin" I can recommend this device for both novice & professional PC User

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great HD Signal Tried this in two parts of Birmingham and got good DVB-T2 (Freeview HD) signal 76% just using the builtin aerial on a window cill. Bought this for the England-Wales match. Sometimes it's a bit slow to lock on to a signal when you change channel however especially in HD. There is an included adapter to connect it to an external Aerial if the internal one does not work. The EPG also is in some random order but you can order the channels Alphabetically with 1 click in the channel selector. Tested on Windows 7 and 8.1.

The PCTV stick only works on a PC (running windows). You can make recordings with the device which can be played back on PC or Mac, but the device and it's respective software is PC only.
