Radio reception and connectivity

Where can I use the Philips clock radio at home?
This mirror finished radio features two alarms that can be set to alert at different times with either the radio or a buzzer set to wake you, with a snooze time of six to seven minutes. Additionally the radio comes with a battery compartment, for a 9V battery, that will backup alarm and clock settings for up to a day in the event of a power failure. These features along with a sleep timer for when you want to listen to music whilst you sleep, makes the Phillips clock radio perfect for your bedroom.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buzzer going off when set to radio wake will be an issue for some I like this radio. Aesthetically it ticks the boxes and it's fairly intuitive to operate. As mentioned by others however there is self evidently a fundamental fault with the alarm function - when set to radio wake the buzzer can also be heard in the background, albeit very faintly. The FAQ gives a fudged answer to the problem providing two unsatisfactory work-arounds. The issue needs acknowledging and fixing. I would assume it's being looked at by Philips. I've decided to keep it rather than return it. I use the radio primarily to check the time and wake me up in the morning. For actual radio listening in the bedroom I use the freeview radio on the TV. I suppose it's up to the individual whether this issue is important enough to prevent someone buying the radio.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beeps when set as radio alarm! Looks good but... I wish I'd read these reviews before buying the alarm. If you set it to wake you using the radio, it still beeps. And plenty loud-enough to hear it and for the beeping to detract from John Humphries and the others on Radio4. The philips support FAQs say to tune it better but this doesn't remove the problem. Turning up the volume of the radio isn't appropriate for early morning! The only option is to turn off the radio alarm and then turn the radio back on manually every morning. Pointless!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor time keeping Have to reset the time on a regular basis, seems to lose 7-8 minutes a month. would definitely expect this from a digital mains alarm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Poor timekeeper Bought this to replace my previous dual alarm clock. Bought Philips cos had previous products fromthem from them with no problems. After a few weeks discovered that this clock was losing time and was running about 2 mins slow. Every time I fixed this it just went back to losing time. Also find buttons on side hard to use to switch alarms on. I find them quite stiff. Other than that I really liked this product. Considering cutting my losses and buying new one that displays correct time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very stylish clock radio alarm This radio looks absolutely superb, with its mirror finish, large screen and small footprint. But underneath the style, it is fairly basic. Clock and alarm setting buttons are pretty small, and very clunky. The radio tuning dial is just that, similar to the system on my Philips transistor radio in the 1960's. I find it quite hard to tune in, and the station selection seems to creep off-tune after several hours. But, its a really nice looking unit, so nice that I bought two of them. I can live with the downsides, but it is calling out for an upgrade to digital tuning.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought without reading reviews This product has the potential to be really good but it fails with the buzzer and radio going off at the same time, and it really is audible. I am taking it back as it is so irritating. Currently I am sitting in another room and I can still hear the buzzer over the top of the music playing. That is really sad as the set up was so very easy, not obviously complicated and you didn't really need instructions to set up the different alarms, set the clock etc. I would say that the buttons on the side are a bit on the small side and don't look that robust, but only time and usage would tell whether this would be a problem. Then can be a bit fiddly to move to the different settings and someone without manual dexterity would find them a problem I think

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product is excellent, but not as good as its predecessor. This is an attractive alarm clock with a clear display. However the size of the display, the actual dimensions of the visible digits has been reduced from the earlier model which I had for years. Similarly the brightness of the display has been diminished, which is not to my particular satisfaction. The clock itself is superb to look at but I feel that the alterations from the previous model have not necessarily been to any visible advantage - almost change for change sake.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks good but........ ....as a timepiece, it's terrible! We have two of these purchased at the same time from a well known retailer and both lose about 17 seconds A DAY! You set the alarm for, say, 07:00 on a Monday and by the Friday it's running nearly 2 minutes slow! That's 8 minutes a month! I'd expect poor calibration from a battery powered clock, but not a mains powered one! Not a good product.
