What does this Philips Hue Motion Sensor do?
Add this motion sensor to your current Philips Hue smart lighting network in your home. By connecting this Philips Hue Motion Sensor to your Philips Hue Bridge via the Philips Hue smartphone app, you will be able to automatically turn your Philips Hue lights on when you walk into a room. Perfect for any room in your home, especially your hallway, bathroom, basement or garage. Using the Philips Hue app you can choose which scene or light setting should be triggered when motion is detected. The lights will automatically switch off when the motion sensor can no longer detect any movement in the room.

What features can be used with the Philips Hue Motion Sensor?
Set the perfect lighting for day and night, during the day the sensor can trigger a bright crisp white light to help you see clearly. Then at night the sensor can turn on a warm white light to help create a gentle atmosphere. Also in the middle of the night if you, your partner or child gets out of bed, enough light will turn on to help navigate the walk in the dark, without waking up the rest of the household.

The integrated daylight sensor will turn on your lights only when they are needed. Using the Philips Hue app you can easily change the light sensitivity level so the sensor only triggers when you need that bit of extra light. When no motion is sensed the lights will be dimmed then automatically switch off after a selected time.

How energy efficient is having this motion sensor?
The Philips Hue Motion Sensor helps you to save energy by automatically turning off lights in areas that aren’t being used. This helps save energy and cut the cost of your energy bills. You can connect up to 50 lights and various accessories to the Philips Hue Bridge so smart lighting can be spread throughout your home, helping to save the environment and your wallet.

How do I install the motion sensor?
The Philips Hue Motion Sensor is battery powered and completely wireless. Easy to install anywhere in your home, setting the motion sensor up only takes a matter of minutes. Place the motion sensor anywhere in your home you feel will pick up the most movement such as, a shelf, side table or mount it to a wall or ceiling using the included screw. The included magnet means you are also able to attach the sensor to metal surfaces such as your fridge. Wherever you place the device, easily adjust the sensor to point in the right direction with the 100-degree adjustable mount attached. Once installed setting up the control requires the Hue Bridge (not included) and downloading the Hue App.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Automation on the Move I have a number of Philips Hue products, from lightstrips to bulbs, so it was only natural to add the motion sensor to allow an additional level of automation, without the need for a smartphone or tablet input. Initial setup is very intuative, especially if you have set up previous Hue devices. My only criticism is that Hue App v1.0 cannot be used to set up the device, only Hue App v2.0, which limts your use of any already existing scenes. The unit comes with a preinstalled battery, simply pull the plastic tab out to activate the unit. You then simply follow the setup steps when you add the new device. 1. Give the sensor a name. 2. Select the time period it's active between (i.e. 7pm ~ 6am) 3. Select the days it's active for. 3. Select the action to be taken when triggered. 4. Select how long the action should be active for. It's that simple. You can add multiple sensors to your set up. Now when l go into my Livingroom after dark, it automatically triggers whatever scene has been preselected. The device is basically an IR switch. I don't have any pets, so unsure how susceptible it would be to being triggered by a dog/cat.
