Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still a good CD player in 2017 I was looking for a personal CD player recently, since I was going away. I don't really do MP3 players, since I prefer the natural playback of a compact disc, with some music playing continuously over tracks. So I went into my local electronics store and to my delight, not only was I still able to get one, but it was a well known brand! I was chuffed to bits and felt like I was a teenager again. Got some smart headphones to go with it and a good stock of batteries, but that's a fair price to pay for being able to step back into my youth. Thank you Philips!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound, fiddly design I have just bought this to drive a very high quality American bluetooth speaker. The combination makes for really good sound - better than streaming from my iPhone 7plus. Apart from that, using the CD player means I don’t need to keep the phone in Bluetooth range of the Bose all the time - that can be a pain for parties, BBQs etc. It doesn’t matter to me that much but the device feels like it is made out of cheap plastics, it’s a bit fiddly to open and the slightly downward facing black on black controls need strong light so you can work out which is which. Not what I expect from a Philips design. More like something they found with a £3 factory gate price in Shanghai and ran with it? On balance though, it’s a worthwhile purchase. I added a 4.5v mains adapter from Maplins.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rechargeable batteries won't even last long enough to play a whole CD I charged up 4 rechargeable Maplins AA batteries and even using freshly charged batteries, even 4 wouldn't play a whole album :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Purchased this player to give my cds an airing. Forgot how much better cd is than downloaded mp3 stuff. You forget how good they are. Obviously its bigger than an ipod or smartphone but sounds infinitely better. Still a bit compressed but leagues ahead of downloads. Supplied earphones are poor but connected to some Sennheiser in ears it really sings. Yes battery compartment is a bit weird but small price to pay. I found controls straight forward. Cd is not dead just yet!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Small and fiddly controls Took it back as it was too tricky to operate as the buttons were so small and difficult to press

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not enough volume I brought this for an elderly lady who has gone into a care home and still wants to listen to her CD's. Buttons tricky to use but main problem was it does not go loud enough.

Can I buy a mains socket for this model so as not to use batteries. If so can I then also connect it at the same time to my Tivoli Radio (Model 1) (with a standard connector) www.tivoliaudio.co.uk? So I can use the speakers.
