Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a nice little instrument which measures temperature by registering infrared radiation - rather like a light meter. I checked its accuracy and its within 1degree at least around room and body temperatures. In the continuous sampling mode ( a bit fiddly to set) its quick and useful. I discovered all the cold spots around windows and doors; when food is too hot to taste; that my wife has2 degree colder feet than I do, and that a clear sky sits at about minus 30 degrees day or night. How did I manage without one?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quite a useful little tool for measuring radiator temperatures etc. BUT completely useless if the surface is bare metal (eg Copper or Stainless Steel etc). Example - A boilng stainless steel kettle reads 40 deg C! (Reason for this quirk is unknown)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I find the thermometer seems t read OK on matt surfaces, but does not on some(?) bare metals. Boiling kettle test have 35C from 30mm away, only 47 when physically in contact. Transistor thermal tab gave 40C when the part was too hot to touch for more than a couple of seconds, to maybe 70C. Sadly that means it's untrustworthy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This has been a great addition for the tool box. The device is accurate and very small and best of all its easy to use. point and shoot!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible - works brilliantly I bought the thermometer to diagnose my central heating system but at this price it is great for anyone who is interested in physics. It measures the infrared that that is emitted from a surface to get the temperature. Different surfaces emit different amounts of infrared. To ensure an accurate reading I stuck a white postage label on the copper pipes and took the reading from those. I then checked against other thermometers. It was correct to better than 0.5C. It think this is as good as devices that are 10x the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Warning! worked since. Manual says to switch off device before changing battery but this is difficult to be sure of when battery is very low.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good Bought 2 of them, both of them not working, called customer services they are happy to send 2 of them free of cost, need to wait and see if they will work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just the job Perfect for all my purposes. Thrice cooked chips, easy peasy. Checking for air leaks around window and door seal. Nice hand size, cased, max/min.

I have a "Pocket Infrared Thermometer - Code: N19FR" I would like to know how to switch it off. The second time i wanted to use it the screen was very faint and it could not be operated because the battery was flat.

Thanks Gareth, but if it was just 1cm, then that would mean the aperture was zero cm, so it couldnt be 1cm

What is the measurement spot size at a distance of 1cm?

Asked by: andy
The distance to spot ratio for this unit is listed as 1:1, so the spot size at that distance would be 1cm.
