Product overview

• 120W portable gas soldering iron so you can work almost anywhere
• Heats up in as little as 20 seconds allowing you to get on with the job in hand
• Temperature set at 450°C allowing you to store heat in the tip to aid the melting process
• Runs for up to 30 minutes when fully refilled with butane

What is included in this kit?
This kit comes with almost everything you need to get started. The kit includes an assortment of heads so you can switch from one to another to suit the job you are doing. It also comes with solder and a tip cleaning sponge to keep your tips nice and clean. All of this is contained in a heavy duty case to keep everything protected while it is being stored.

What difference does the wattage make?
The wattage of a soldering iron is one of the most important factors when deciding which one to buy. Higher wattage will deliver more power to the iron’s tip, allowing it to heat up quicker. As this is a variable wattage soldering iron, it heats up the tip in as little as 15 seconds allowing you to start soldering without having to wait.

What are the other tips used for?
The tips included with this kit are suitable for a range of jobs. The standard 1.6mm tip is what you would use for normal, component or wire soldering based jobs. The torch head attachment gives you a pin point precision flame for the more accurate jobs, while the hot knife attachment gives you a tool for accurate cuts through plastic, Styrofoam and candles. Lastly, it comes with a hot air blower which is perfect for use with heat shrinkable sleeving, so you can cover your soldered connections for an extra bit of protection.

Do I need anything else for this soldering iron?
This soldering iron is supplied with a preinstalled tip but no other accessories. You will require Butane gas so you can actually use the soldering iron. Lead-free or silver solder is another item that you will require to begin soldering. If you require additional tips, or different tips, take a look at Order Code N90FA.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good gun, awful support These guns require the Orifice Assembly to be replaced periodically. Maplin do not sell these and neither does anybody else in the UK. You'll have to import replacements from the USA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soldering iron and blowtourch. This has transformed soldering for me. It heats up in 30 seconds and the temp is adjustable via the flame intensity. There are two soldering tips, a hot blade and a heat nozzle to use on shrink wrap. Uses lighter fluid as fuel and seems very efficient.

Is the gas refill end available as a part to buy. I dropped my one and broke the rear end off.

On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

Aret the tips interchangeable? i.e would the selection of tips available for the Solderpro 70 fit the Solderpro 120? Thanks.
Asked by: Neil
Hi. You can change the tips but, having just upgraded from my 70 to the 120 - actually on the basis of Maplin's answer, actually you cannot use tips from the 70 with the 120. the 70 tips screw on, the 120's use a collar. So all my 70's are useless! - (free hot air tip please Maplin!).
