Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased one of these to give my Western Digital 1.5TB SATA II hard disk from my old desktop a new life - my desktop suffered a major failure so I'm now using it with a laptop. Good points: * Far superior than the one I bought from PC World - it looks better and is better built too. * Adaptor is universal voltage so will work anywhere in the world. * Aluminium body acts like a heatsink to keep HDD cool. * On/Off switch is a bonus - allows you to switch it off when you are not using it. * 3TB support - I have tested it and can verify it will work with a 3TB HDD (tested it with a friend's 3TB Seagate HDD). Bad points: * USB cable supplied is very thin and flimsy - I would suggest using a far better USB cable. Luckily I had a better cable to use it with. * No feet included - but these can be bought from hardware shops. Overall an excellent product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ProBox 3.5 inch SATA USB enclosure Having researched similar items from other 'big' well-known stores, I decided on the Maplin box - I particularly like the ON/OFF switch on the SATA box as this means I can isolate it when not backing-up. I am not disappointed with this product! It is very well constructed, good quality and worked first time with my 1TB HDD. It will accept up to 3TB HDD's (that's actually stated on the packaging) and the supplied USB lead is of good quality (not a thin one). I guess Maplin have taken notice of previous reviewers comments. I cannot fault this product and strongly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product. Best usb3 external case I've had. It's so fast that I can run some of my installed programs from it (VLC, Nero, Qt, etc.) Good build quality (heat conductive and dissipating aluminum) at a very affordable price.

I am intending to use this to recover a drive from a Dell desktop. Will I be able to access the information already stored on that drive or will the reformat lose information already on the drive? Thanks

Asked by: Tommy
No format of the drive should be needed to install it in the dock.

Will this work with a SATA drive taken from a 2007 MacPro? The measurements listed are:  Width: 3.9 inches (102 mm) Depth: 5.7 inches (147 mm) Height: 1.0 inch.

Asked by: creator31
Looking at the details for that series of Mac Pro, that enclosure should be fine for that type of drive.
