The benefits of Pi Zero W
The Raspberry Pi Zero W Starter Kit comes with everything you need to take your first steps into the world of coding in Python. The Pi Zero W is a single core CPU (central processing unit), with built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth. It is an extremely portable, hackable computer with the same 40-pin layout as the Raspberry Pi 2, 3, and Zero. It has both an HDMI mini and two micro USB ports, and a Micro SD card reader, giving you endlessly capabilities with the Raspbian coding library. The Pi Zero W has 512MB of RAM, along with the included 8GB micro-SD card. The micro SD card provided comes preloaded with the operating system, so you can start exploring the code right away.
Learning and making with the Python Library
The Python library contains a vast number of example codes with step by step tutorials to get you started. The Pi Zero W can be used to try out both small scale and larger scale coding. With a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, you’ll be able to turn your microcontroller into anything you can imagine. Whether you want to create and play basic games, track down things of interest in mapping software or simply control automated lights around your house, the Pi Zero W Starter Kit provides the basis for any project.
Blinkt! LED Strip
The Pi Zero W Starter Kit includes the Blinkt! strip with eight, individually controllable APA102 RGB LEDs. This strip come fully assembled and sits directly on top of the Pi Zero W, without interfering with PWM audio. As each pixel is controllable, you can choose to change the brightness, colour of each one. You can choose when each LED is on and off and customise every part of it, making it a simple but highly effectively add-on. The Blinkt! is a great strip for creating miniature LED signage or lighting a display, and when used in conjunction with other pHATs and add-ons, can be controlled and triggered by both motion and sound.
To protect your Pi Zero W, this kit includes a Pibow case. The case itself is high from high quality, cast acrylic, which is strong but incredibly lightweight. It consists of frosted red, purple, and blue layers, with a clear top layer so all of the board is visible. The case also leaves all the ports accessible so you can use your Pi Zero W while it is safely ensconced in the Pibow. In this starter kit, you will also find a sticker sheet so you can personalise your case.
