About this product

Overview

Product overview

• Make a fantastic beetle model that can be controlled by a remote control pad
• Control forwards, back, left and right turning as well as opening and closing the claw
• No need to solder or glue the kit slots together
• Requires eight AA batteries (not included - Order Code L39BF)

What can I make with this kit?
Create an amazing beetle robot complete with movement, a working claw and a built-in LED searchlight. You can control the beetle using the infrared remote control. The robot can move forwards, backwards, left and right, as well as being able to open and close its claw. No need to solder or glue - this kit simply clips together.

What is in this kit?
This kit provides a great way to explore mechanics. The beetle contains many different gears and three motors - see how gears interact with each other and how the robot transforms the output from the motors. The claw alone uses two motors, so you can explore how the different movements are generated. With 174 parts, this is a lot of fun to put together. You may require long nosed pliers, diagonal cutters and a screwdriver to assemble this kit.

Can I combine it with others?
Build yourself a fleet of beetles and control them all with the same remote. The remote control has four channels and can direct a different robot beetle. The robot beetle requires four AA batteries in the controller and four AA batteries per robot (this kit contains one controller and one beetle robot).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great when it's working. My 7 year old daughter enjoyed helping me to build this and loved the finished beetle ... until one of the motors stopped working after 5 minutes due to a blown driver chip. The chip (MD123) was rated at max 5.5V which is a bit marginal for 4xAA and isn't stocked by any UK stockist. I would recommend only running this on 1.2V rechargeable cells.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It was fun to make, not easy but not to difficult, fun to play with. Two bad things with it is it keeps driving even after you have taken your finger off the button and the remote's range is only about a meter or so, otherwise it is excellent.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A00JT it some what difficult to assemble as had to take back to store has as had difficulty to assemble hand remote, but the the rest of it was quite easy to assemble, the grip on the wheels is not that good, but if you attach small pieces of Velcro to each wheel you get a lot more grip if you are running the vehicle around on carpet etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Toy This is fab, great to get teens into engineering or electronics, we had a world of fun making and playing with it. It needs 8 AA batteries not four and you will need a tiny skewdriver and patients but it's brilliant.
