Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed The software failed to live up to expectations. It does capture video, although the quality is not good. Writing direct to dvd also works but, again, the quality is poor. The big problem is when trying to compile clips. The clip can be imported, but does not appear in the preview window so cannot be edited. The software lacks functionality, thereby limiting options of what can be achieved. Would I buy this product knowing what I now know. Definitely not. On the 'Plus' side the product also comes with Roxio 'Sound Editor' software, which is excellent. This still does not make up with the disappointment with the VHS to DVD software.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I first used this product with a Windows 7 Home Premium PC and soon ran into problems. It become obvious to me that the product renders video at a very poor quality. I began to notice choppy playback and frequent pauses in the video even though my PC exceeds the minimum hardware requirements. I soon decided to try it on another PC (Windows Vista Home Premium PC) to see if it was a problem on my end. I connected all of the cables up as specified in the instructions booklet but when I tried to capture the video using the included software. I was able to capture audio but not video. This could probably be fixed with a software patch. Hope this helps. Maplin Moderator Note: We are sorry to hear you encountered difficulties using this product. Rated 5 out of 5 by from VHS transferring - much easier than I feared I got this and the PC automatically searched and installed all of the drivers - which was unexpectedly easy (I suppose the name should have given it away). I registered the software, hooked up my VCR to my PC using the cables provided. I tried it out first on an old tape that we used to love watching but that has sat in a box for years. Video appeared on screen and was easy to record. Main gripe for me is the short USB lead, but that is more an annoyance than a legitimate problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of kit. So pleased to have this. I'd forgotten how many old vids I had that I loved! Works well and was easy to get going.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does NOT work!? Purchased Bromley store. No video signal, audio only. Updated the drivers, tested all cables, tried all USB ports. Win10 device manager shows the capture driver as OK, but no video? Roxio tech support are useless, no help.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed. Bought to copy old VHS tapes to hard disc and paid £49.99 hoping for top quality. Connected it all up via composite cables, software works fine with Windows 10, but found that the vidbox can't sync with the VCR player output when VCR is playing a VHS tape, i.e the view screen is blue and doesn't show any video. Audio is way out of sync too. The vidbox sync's OK when VCR plays a DVD or TV, but that's not what I've bought VHSTODVD to do. Vidbox Inc's customer care technician says the problem is the VCR signal is 'too weak' when it plays a VHS tape, which I agree seems to be the issue, but frankly the Vidbox should be designed to deal with a range of signal strengths, just as our (and any) regular Television does to display video from an external source. What are we supposed to do, go and buy endless VCR's until we find one that the vidbox is compatible with? Unfortunately it's not fit for purpose so VHSTODVD is getting returned asap.

My VHS player only has yellow and white ports, will this work without the red cable and the s- cable attached??  Or will I have to get adapter to plug the three colours into the scart plug?

Asked by: tinaday1
This should still work, however it sounds like your VHS was set for mono audio output only, as such when capturing you will only have audio from one channel. It should be possible to duplicate this channel in editing to create a full stereo image to accompany your captured video.
