What is a hybrid DVR?
Whether you are looking to upgrade your existing CCTV system or want to install one for the first time, this CCTV kit would be a great choice for you. This Samsung 8 channel hybrid DVR CCTV with two cameras (Manufacturer’s Code: SDH-P4021) can support up to four analogue cameras with BNC connections and up to four HD cameras with Ethernet connections. It can record in 1080p (full HD) or, if you’re using analogue cameras, up to 960H resolution. This allows you to use your old analogue cameras alongside with the two supplied HD cameras, saving you money and potentially increasing the amount of coverage.

How good are the supplied cameras and can I add more?
This kit includes two 1080p cameras that record crystal clear, highly detailed footage. As well as recording in the day, the camera can record up to 30 metres at night, with the infrared turning on automatically. Samsung have also added Samsung super dynamic range (SSDR) and Samsung super noise reduction III (SSNRIII) to the cameras. SSDR ensures that dark areas are viewable, so that objects in the shadows can be seen. SSNRIII helps to eliminate image noise after dark, maintaining image quality during low light conditions.

Each camera has a viewing angle of 88 degrees and a weatherproof rating of IP66, giving you the chance to place the cameras in a wide variety of places, getting a great field of view both indoors and outdoors. Two HD cameras (such as Order Code: A29UF) and four analogue cameras can be added to the kit to increase the overall coverage and security offered.

What is the storage like?
A 2TB hard drive is included in this kit’s DVR. The 2TB storage size allows you to store a considerable amount of recordings, and motion detected recording can be set up to keep unnecessary footage to a minimum. Additionally, you can arrange for the DVR to send you email alerts when programmed events, such as motion detection or video signal loss, occurs. This makes it easy to keep up to date with any strange happenings around the house or office.

Can I access the cameras when I am away?
Not only can you receive alerts through the DVR, but you can also remotely view live footage from your cameras. A great way to do this is through the iPOLiS mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. Alternatively, you can view your cameras and change/set any features of your DVR remotely from your PC with Smart Viewer®.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from If you want remote viewing this is probably not for you I have been looking for a HD 1080P DIY type CCTV system for a few months and was just about set on the Swann system that Maplin sell when this came up on a Black Friday deal. I must admit a swore a few years ago that I would never buy Samsung again after they refused to honour a cash back deal. I did however think that on paper this deal was too good to miss so bought it given it was £50 cheaper and had a larger hard drive. One of the most important features of a system for me was remote viewing over Android. Samsung would surely get this right given they have such a market share in the android handset market..... How wrong was I. Their app is awful and alarm bells started ringing when I downloaded and noticed the particularly bad reviews on play store. Given I am a Chartered Engineer with a degree in Electronic Engineering I figured the technical side of linking the application with the DVR would be easy enough. Not so, I am not an expert in internet communications or IT by the way but I consider myself reasonably technical. When unpacking the box the first thing I noticed was the DVR is huge. You wont be hiding it anywhere that's for sure and it has no facility to mount vertically. It seemed reasonable quality though and came with a mouse, remote control and all relevant cables. A good start. Then I unpacked the first camera and my disappointment started to sink in. The quality of the cameras is very poor, they feel cheap and are very much plastic. I could get over that though - they would be mounted on the wall and if they served there purpose so be it. Then (given the poor ratings of the app for remote viewing) I decided to set up the system without installing the cameras and cabling. The DVR and one camera worked ok and the quality seemed OK too bearing in mind it was in a small room rather than outside in the dark. I tested the IR by turning the lights off too and the quality seemed OK here too – you cant see the IR LEDS on the images too well but they are there behind the black surround and are noticeable when they are on. Next I tried to set up remote monitoring. It was one of those nights where I was up late and wasted hours of my life I will never get back. I followed all instructions to the letter and noted down the IP addresses and various other network parameters, then followed the instructions for setting it up via the Samsung website (the step by step guide was easy to follow by the way). The website and the DVR appeared to be linked - Once logged in to the Samsung website I could see that the DVR was active and there was a button to view the cameras. When you click this button your browser asks you to install an add on - Add on installed but no joy. It just wouldn't work on the laptop, it could have been the laptop as it constantly wanted the add on, then when I clicked the button it would highlight I had already installed it. I reset internet explorer, reset the laptop and even tried to un-install it and re-install it again. I gave up. Then I installed the android app and followed all instructions (including deleting it, reinstalling it and starting the whole process again). No connection, nothing. I tried this whilst the phone was on the same network as the DVR (through the DVR's IP address as well) and also tried to access it through my mobile phone data connection too. No joy. Then I downloaded the IPAD version and tried again. The IPAD would allow viewing of the camera when on my home network through the DVRs IP address but when I tried it through the internet (changing from IP mode) and it would not work either. So no remote access from my PC, my Android app or my IPAD app so I packaged it up and took it back. If you want a HD CCTV system, do not require remote access and maybe want to interface some old non-IP cameras then perhaps this system might satisfy your needs. I swapped it for the Swann 1080P HD system which is in a different league. The DVR is much smaller and easier to hide with holes to allow vertical mounting, cameras feel significantly better made (metal rather than plastic) and remote login set up was a breeze – download the app, point your mobile phone camera at the QR tag on the DVR and its pretty much done. I haven't installed it yet so cant provide a detailed review at the moment but so far it is miles better than the Samsung kit in every way. The interface Seems better than the Samsung one too. Just seems like the Samsung design team haven't bothered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from hard to beat for the money iv'e had this installed for over 12 months and find it excellent for the money. the poor review that has been written about this kit is more to do with user rather than the equipment itself. setting up remote viewing is easy via Ipolis ( android viewing software ) as long as you set up dynamic ip address management with the likes of no ip or similar you will have no trouble viewing the cameras remotely. other android software works namely ip cam viewer works just as well. i have to agree using the samsung web service is terrible but there is no need to the cameras / dvr can be viewed and controlled via the dvr's own web page remotely and works quite well. the 1080p video quality is very good although if less compression was used on the recording which cannot really be adjusted the quality would be excellent. night vision is very good giving a decent infra red coveridge and daytime viewing is handled very well even in direct sunlight which can look a total mees if not handled right, samsung seems to have got thisd just about right 12 months down the line from fitting the system it has not glitched once it just works. the 2 tB storage allows for about 2 weeks stoarage ( motion detect ) using the 2 supplied 1080p cameras and 3 standard definition cameras ( 5 in total ) to be fair to the person who wrote the review having trouble with remote viewing i have a good understanding of networking and it's not the firat time i have set up remote viewing, setting up the samsung dvr / camerers was quite familiar territory would i buy this system again ? yes i would i have had more expensive setups in the past from the likes of baxall and i jave to say samsung has been more reliable

Can I add any make cameras to this system later. This system says it has 1080 high definition cameras does that also mean that the this is a high definition systems. I tried  phoning Truro but it's a button pressing option that my mobile won't do.

Asked by: Christopher
No, we recommend to only use Samsung with Samsung and so on when it comes to HD analogue.

The image of the camera does not show any night vision capabilities, no infared led's.

Asked by: roo4less
The IR Leds are hidden behind the black sorround and are visible when they come on. The build quality of the cameras is awful though, very light and plastic. I would look elsewhere.
